position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Product Owner with a strong background in financial services, specifically with prior experience at Amex or a similar organization. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the development and delivery of innovative products that align with our business objectives and meet the evolving needs of our customers. You will play a crucial part in the product lifecycle, from ideation through to delivery, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring that products are aligned with industry standards, compliance regulations, and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Vision & Strategy:
  • Define and communicate the product vision and strategy in alignment with business objectives, leveraging your knowledge of the financial services industry, particularly from your time at Amex or a similar company.
  • Establish a product roadmap that aligns with customer needs, market opportunities, and business goals.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitor products, ensuring that the product stays competitive and compliant.
  • Backlog Management:
  • Own and manage the product backlog, ensuring prioritization of features based on customer needs, business impact, and industry best practices.
  • Define user stories and ensure that acceptance criteria are clear and actionable.
  • Continuously refine and prioritize the backlog in collaboration with business stakeholders, development teams, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
  • Work closely with development, design, marketing, and compliance teams to ensure that product features are delivered according to requirements, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Act as the main point of contact between the business and technical teams, ensuring that all product requirements are understood and met.
  • Provide continuous guidance and support to development teams to clarify product requirements and resolve any blockers.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
  • Maintain strong communication with internal stakeholders, including senior management, business leaders, and department heads, providing updates on product progress, timelines, and risks.
  • Advocate for the end-user while balancing business needs, compliance, and technical feasibility.
  • Collect feedback from stakeholders, customers, and end-users to refine product features and prioritize upcoming enhancements.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:
  • Ensure that product features meet regulatory requirements and industry standards, especially those relevant to the financial services sector.
  • Leverage your knowledge of regulatory frameworks, such as PCI-DSS, GDPR, and other financial industry regulations, to guide the product’s development and ensure compliance.
  • Release Planning & Execution:
  • Actively participate in sprint planning, ensuring that features and user stories are well-defined and ready for development.
  • Monitor the progress of product releases, ensuring timely and efficient delivery while maintaining a high standard of quality.
  • Lead product launches and ensure that go-to-market plans, including training and marketing, are aligned with product goals.
  • Performance Monitoring & Optimization:
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track product performance post-launch, ensuring that features meet customer expectations and business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with data teams to analyze product usage and identify areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Customer-Centric Focus:
  • Leverage customer feedback and user data to continuously enhance the product experience.
  • Prioritize product features that directly impact the customer experience, focusing on improving usability, accessibility, and satisfaction.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager, with a strong background in financial services, particularly with experience at American Express (Amex) or a similar financial institution.
  • In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry, including credit cards, payments, banking products, and digital financial solutions.
  • Proven experience in Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and working with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of financial regulations such as PCI-DSS, GDPR, AML, KYC, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Previous experience working in compliance-heavy environments, ensuring product features adhere to industry standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Familiarity with technical concepts and the ability to translate business needs into actionable technical specifications.
  • Experience using product management tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Aha, and other project tracking tools.
  • Stakeholder Management & Communication Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate product strategy, status, and updates to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Customer-Centric Focus:
  • Ability to think strategically about customer needs, the user experience, and deliver solutions that align with customer expectations.
  • Proven track record of delivering products that improve customer engagement and satisfaction.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering actionable insights and making data-driven decisions.
  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. An MBA or equivalent advanced degree is a plus.
