Newton, United States Dearborn STEP Assessment Program Full time

The Dearborn STEP Assessment Program is a small, short-term assessment program in Newton, MA. STEP is designed to provide stabilization, academic, behavior, and clinical assessment and intervention to students in grades 5-12. The profiles of our students vary, but general profile trends include school avoidance, anxiety, depression, and social pragmatic deficits. STEP is not a hands-on restraint program. STEP aims to collaborate with each student, caregivers, and providers to understand the student’s strengths and areas of need collectively. After a 40-day period, STEP provides a thorough assessment and recommendations that caregivers and districts use to determine the most appropriate next placement for the student.

This is the ideal position for someone who wants a small class size, autonomy, and the opportunity to have a real impact.


Responsibilities include:

  • Teaches a classroom of students (high school) with primary emotional and/or learning disabilities.
  • Provides individualized/group lessons to students based on class needs/provides work obtained through the sending district
  • Supports and assists in the behavior management of students
  • Provides feedback to the larger team in meetings regarding work production and academic/social/emotional presentation in the classroom
  • Reviews intake materials and disseminate relevant academic history and significant incidents to all staff through an educational assessment draft and presentation at case conferences.
  • Oversees grading and development of individualized report cards as requested by the school district
  • Coordinates with sending districts on MCAS testing as needed
  • Collaborates with the Director and Clinical Director to ensure the academic classroom is in alignment with program philosophy
  • Contributes to weekly report on each student that captures their weekly performance in the classroom
  • Support students’ transition to their new school upon completion of the STEP program.
  • Coordinates and disseminates sending districts’ questionnaires or surveys accompanying three-year re-evaluation as needed
  • The Teacher is supervised by the STEP Director.


Qualifications

  • Licensed in Special Education or related licensure in education
  • 2+ years of teaching experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience in a school or program for students with trauma/emotional disabilities is preferred
