Position Summary: The OSP Engineer III will manage the end-to-end process of FTTH engineering, focusing on designing telecom infrastructure, interpreting field data, and updating GIS and splicing drawings. This role is essential for enhancing broadband deployment in rural areas, contributing to the mission of providing reliable internet services to underserved communities.
The OSP Engineer I will:
- Reports to the Senior Manager of OSP Planning and Engineering to develop and review OSP designs that align with industry standards.
- Provide direction and oversight for multiple projects, ensuring timely and quality delivery.
- Develop and maintain QA/QC checklists; review construction documents and permits for accuracy and compliance.
- Interpret, revise, and update splicing diagrams and related technical drawings as necessary.
- Analyze bill of materials and unit labor costs associated with engineering designs.
- Review, interpret, and validate MRE/MRC documents and applications.
- Ability to read and understand utility maps and their associated features.
- Provide guidance to engineering vendors and internal designers to ensure deadlines are met.
- Operate GIS hardware and software systems, including ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, AutoCAD, Trimble, and specialized Fiber Management software such as 3GIS, OSPInsight, and GE Smallworld.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio, Access, etc.).
- Perform GPS editing and integration for telecom utility data.
- Review and correct data integrity issues within engineering documentation.
- Perform georeferencing and digitizing of GIS data.
- Process and interpret field data collection, ensuring accurate results.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geography, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related field (relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
- 5+ years of experience in OSP Design and Engineering, with at least 1 year of GIS experience (utility sector experience preferred).
- Proven experience managing the design and implementation of regional Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) projects.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage schedules, and meet deadlines while working independently.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access) and Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Presentations, Forms).
- Experience with QA/QC processes for engineering drawings related to utility systems.
- Willingness to travel for work as needed.
