Job Title: (Part-Time) Associate Legal Specialist

Duration: 9 month contract

Location: 100% Onsite - Morristown, NJ 07962

Part-time: 20 hours minimum

Position Overview:

One of CEI's largest Energy clients is seeking an Associate Legal Specialist to join their Organization You would be responsible for providing support on two distinct projects. First would be in-person support to the Legal Department with managing physical files in Morristown, New Jersey, where the position is located, as well as potentially being asked to provide remote support with managing physical files elsewhere. Second, would be focused in complex litigation discovery support and coordination. This temporary position reports to the Managing Counsel, State Regulatory. All tasks will be performed under the direction or supervision of an attorney.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years professional work experience with legal background required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and OneDrive) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
  • Strong attention to detail required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Skills (But Not Required):

  • Associates or Bachelors degree preferred.
  • ABA Paralegal Certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in working with state public utility commission or administrative agency matters preferred.

Day to Day/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating file management, including the ability to read and comprehend legal documents, dockets and case files in order to catalogue, organize, and summarize regulatory litigation files in a meaningful way.
  • Assisting with the development and execution of a file retention program, which may include electronic or hard copies, on or offsite, and cataloguing, etc.
  • Communicating effectively with designated individuals regarding their responsibility to respond to discovery and to ensure that deadlines are being met.
  • Tracking of discovery to provide detailed reports at least on a weekly basis utilizing SharePoint and Excel.
