Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically adept Additive Manufacturing Engineer, Ceramics to join our dynamic team at Boston Micro Fabrication. As an Additive Manufacturing Engineer, Ceramics, you will be an integral part of our dental ceramics production team, collaborating with fellow engineers and technicians to produce, troubleshoot, and optimize dental ceramic product for both prototyping and production, while maintaining and scaling printed ceramic product production workflows. Additionally, this role will contribute to daily resin-based printing operations and quality control for customer benchmark parts as time permits.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the production process for 3D printed ceramic parts, working both independently and with a team, ensuring adherence to quality standards, production schedules, and material specifications.
  2. Develop and optimize printing parameters for DLP processes specific to ceramic materials, achieving desired mechanical properties and surface finishes for end-use patient applications.
  3. Collaborate with design engineers to translate designs into printable ceramic components, considering printability, functionality, and post-processing requirements.
  4. Implement and manage quality control procedures and audits throughout the production cycle, including pre-print inspection, post-print cleaning, and final part inspection.
  5. Prepare and maintain technical documentation related to ceramic 3D printing processes, production procedures, and quality control measures.
  6. Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to 3D printing equipment, ceramic materials, and post-processing steps.
  7. Maintain a deep understanding of ceramic material properties and their behavior in the DLP printing and sintering processes.
  8. Stay current on advancements in ceramic additive manufacturing technologies and materials to ensure best practices.
  9. Contribute to daily resin-based printing operations and quality control for customer benchmark parts as time permits.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, materials science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with SLA or DLP 3D printers, ideally with a focus on production of end-use parts. Experience with 3D printed ceramics is strongly preferred. 
  • Experience optimizing print parameters for resin materials to achieve desired properties. Experience optimizing ceramic material print parameters strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with production planning, quality control methods, and data analysis.
  • Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
