Position Summary:


The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will have expertise in product development and design, particularly in electrical systems and harness assemblies. This role involves developing new products, enhancing existing lines, and creating detailed documentation in line with industry standards. The ideal candidate will be adept at utilizing design software, such as SolidWorks or Visio, and possess a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing methods and electrical systems for vehicle applications.


Essential Functions of the Job:


  • Design and Development: Use SolidWorks or Visio to design electrical systems and harness assemblies. Ensure designs meet product standards and manufacturing capabilities.


  • Team Collaboration: Work within an integrated team, leading or participating in collaborative design efforts.


  • Documentation: Create detailed component schematics, harness drawings, and wire lists. Select appropriate components for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.


  • Material Sourcing: Work closely with the purchasing department to source materials and vendors.


  • Bill of Materials (BOM): Accurately structure BOMs for each electrical system or harness drawing.


  • Customer and Technical Service: Provide support regarding product or design inquiries.


  • Prototyping and Installation: Lead or assist in constructing and installing wire harnesses and electrical systems for prototypes.


  • Training: Educate team members on job scope, computer systems, BOM structuring, etc.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s):


Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD systems, particularly SolidWorks or Visio.

Strong knowledge in electrical and embedded systems, design techniques, and harness layout.

Familiarity with PLC Programs and Codesys Development system is preferred.

Experience with CAN networks and devices and understanding of SAE J1939.

Proficiency in using industry-related tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.).

Familiarity with common connector brands (Deutsch, Weather Pak, Tyco, etc.).

Excellent communication skills and the ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals.

Knowledge in circuit analysis, component selection, and conductor sizing.

Education and Experience:


Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field.

Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in a heavy vehicle environment.


Working Conditions:


This role is primarily based in a manufacturing setting, requiring both office work and on-site engagement in production and prototyping areas. Relocation available.
