This position is part of the NOAA Cyber Security Center (NCSC) Security Operations Center (SOC) that executes 24x7 cybersecurity monitoring and incident response for NOAA networks. The Security Controls Assessor (SCA) executes cybersecurity assessments based on NIST SP-800-53 revision 5 and provides expertise regarding systems compliance in accordance with Federal, Department of Commerce, and NOAA policies. Additionally, as part of the Information Assurance team, develops assessment and validation strategies to ensure compliance.

As a Security Controls Assessor, you will work either independently or as part of a team to achieve critical mission objectives, ensuring smooth operations for the customer.

What Will You Do
• Perform assessment on current documents and artifacts to ensure alignment with Federal, DOC, and NOAA policies
• Identify documentation gaps and work with other teams to mitigate any findings
• Track number of artifacts up to date, need update, or missing
• Support the creation or updating of artifacts as required
• Produce Information Security Documentations such as Systems Security Plans
• Develop and maintain documentation outlining system operating environments
• Developing and revising system-specific security safeguards and local operating procedures that are based on relevant guidelines and regulations.

Job Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field with 3 or more years of Assessment & Authorization (A&A) experience, including implementing and evaluating NIST security controls; additional years of experience required in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
• Experience as a Security Controls Assessor Representative.
• Familiar with with NIST Cybersecurity Framework and/or risk management within the Intelligence Community.
• Experience being part of a high performing A&A teams and adapting standards to create "best practices".
• Have knowledge of NIST SP 800-53 Rev4 or Rev5
• Experience producing Information Security Documentations such as Systems Security Plans and developing and maintaining documentation outlining system operating environments.
