Law firm experience REQUIRED--The Director of Finance and Accounting is responsible for the effective administration and operations of all client accounting services including: client billing, allocation of cash receipts, retainers, time entry, write-offs, aged accounts receivable and unbilled time, client trust funds, records management, conflicts of interest and the maintenance of the Firm’s financial accounting system. In addition, this individual will work closely with the Managing Director in providing Firm management with accurate and timely financial information.

Responsibilities:

  • detailed financial analysis and provide frequent reporting—daily, weekly, monthly, and annually—alongside proactive budgeting and forecasting

  • strategic financial planning and forecasting that align with the firm’s long-term objectives
  • the firm’s financial performance by leveraging data-driven decision-making and advanced analytics
  • the entire budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes
  • and utilize financial models to analyze profitability across clients, matters, and departments
  • the client intake process

  • train, mentor, and manage the Accounting Department
  • cross-training to maintain coverage during absences
  • and maintain financial risk management processes and strategies


  • 7 years of relevant experience at a law firm is required
  • experience in financial management and project leadership within a law firm
  • expertise in Aderant financial software
  • in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • analytical skills, with the ability to create and interpret financial reports
  • communication skills and the ability to lead teams effectively
  • organization and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated initiative and good judgment
  • to handle multiple priorities with calm and professional demeanor
  • knowledge of law firms
  • Degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related fields
