Role Overview:

Could you be our next Senior Regulatory Attorney? Globe Life is looking for an experienced Senior Regulatory Attorney to join the team

Reporting to the Corporate SVP of Legal, the Sr. Regulatory Attorney will represent the Company acting as a liaison in a strategic capacity between industry regulatory bodies, agencies, commissions, and the office of the General Counsel. This purpose of this role is to strengthen the position, brand recognition of Globe Life’s family of brands, and alignment within the insurance regulatory environment through strategic partnerships. The Senior Regulatory Attorney will collaborate with and provide expert guidance to the Legal department on navigating the complex regulatory requirements.

This is a hybrid position located in McKinney, TX (WFH Monday & Friday, In Office Tuesday-Thursday).

What You Will Do:

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships among industry groups such as ACLI (American Council of Life Insurers) and NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) to both represent and advocate for the Globe Life brand.
  • Attendance of industry conferences, events, and special assemblies of advocacy groups and commissions to represent the Company and remain informed of leading industry knowledge and trends.
  • Provide legal research, analysis, and legal advice on issues relating to best practices in the changing regulatory environment.
  • Provide input and advise business partners and peers on matters related to reinsurance, investment compliance, corporate governance, financial reporting, insolvencies, and other matters related to regulatory policy.
  • Research and interpret [new] regulations to identify Company impact, reporting needs, and accountability.
  • Communicate complex regulatory language for legal and non-legal audiences for the purpose of creating actionable goals and objectives to ensure alignment to requirements is maintained.
  • Advise Legal department leadership regarding applicable legislative and regulatory matters.
  • Advising the department on and preparation of company act transactions.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in the legal and regulatory framework applicable to life and supplemental health insurers across all jurisdictions in which the Company’s subsidiaries do business.
  • Cultivate relationships with key personnel and department heads across the Company’s portfolios and lines of business.
  • From time to time, this role may be asked to assist other attorneys with, or be responsible for, other matters, including contract review, marketing or advertising review, legal research, and/or other special projects.

What You Can Bring:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Legal Studies or other related fields.
  • Juris Doctor not required, but preferred.
  • 5+ years working with the legal or compliance department.
  • 5+ years working within the legal and regulatory framework of the insurance industry.
  • Possess a strong legal acumen and a penchant for interpreting complex regulatory language.
  • Able to identify opportunities for improvements, translating between legal and non-legal audiences, to simplify complex problems.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to build enduring trusting relationships.
  • Able to build and maintain strong professional relationships based with a high degree of integrity and subject matter expertise.
  • Possess an understanding of how to accomplish objectives both directly and through influencing others both internally and externally for to propagate buy-in.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, tact, diplomacy, and a high level of professionalism are required.
  • Must be a strong communicator, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and the ability to issue-spot for areas of legal concern.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Maintain compliance with Legal Rules of Professional Responsibility. Maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
  • Ability to research law across all states in the U.S., with an understanding of conflict of laws principles.
