As a Cybersecurity Firewall Engineer, you will assume a pivotal role in assessing and enhancing the efficiency of Firewalls and Intrusion Detection Systems. Your duties will encompass scrutinizing and documenting network communications, implementing and upgrading new technologies, and furnishing technical support for IT initiatives. Your proficiency in Cisco Security technology, network protocols, and firewall administration will be indispensable in safeguarding the integrity and security of digital assets.


This is a hybrid, 12 month contract role in Reading, PA.


Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate the design and operational effectiveness of Firewalls and Intrusion Detection Systems.
  • Review and optimize existing firewall rules.
  • Document key network communications through firewalls.
  • Upgrade and install new Cisco Firewall and Intrusion Detection technology.
  • Assist in designing new internal network topology and flows using firewalls.
  • Perform daily network security operations duties.
  • Update standard operating procedures and as-built documentation.
  • Provide network security technical assistance for IT projects.


Ideal Candidate:

  • Candidates with at least 3 years of hands-on experience with Cisco FirePower or ASA firewall platform.
  • Proficiency in network protocol decode using tools like Wireshark or TCPDump.
  • Advanced skill in SIEM or Logging Technology (e.g., Splunk, Sentinel, QRadar, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience in network security and cloud is advantageous.


Education and Training Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Cisco Security technology (ASA and Firepower).
  • Familiarity with Firewall Administration and Operation.
  • Advanced understanding of Information Technology.
  • Advanced knowledge of network security best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP) and secure communications.
  • Familiarity with common hacking techniques (e.g., malware, phishing, etc.) and effective counter measures using firewalls.
  • Certification such as CCNA/CCNP is preferred.


Relevant Work Experience Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of related experience administering firewall technology.
  • Hands-on experience using common network admin utilities and tools.
  • Hands-on operation of cybersecurity infrastructure (e.g., Firewalls, Intrusion Detection, Proxies, DNS, etc.) and configuration experience.
  • Installation and Operation of Cisco ASA (required) and Firepower (desired).
