Network Security Engineer

firstPRO is seeking a skilled, hands-on Network Security Engineer to join our client located in the Reading Area. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing and enhancing the design and operational effectiveness of Firewalls and Intrusion Detection Systems, optimizing existing firewall rules, and documenting key network communications through firewalls. This role is a long-term consulting opportunity and has a hybrid work model. Candidates MUST be a US Citizen and live in the continental US.


Responsibilities:


  • Review and enhance the design and operational effectiveness of Firewalls and Intrusion Detection Systems.
  • Optimize existing firewall rules.
  • Document key network communications through firewalls.
  • Upgrade and deploy new Cisco Firewall and Intrusion Detection technology.
  • Contribute to the design of new internal network topology, flows, and planned system isolation using firewalls.
  • Perform daily network security operations tasks, such as managing service requests related to firewall rule changes, network intrusion detection signature updates, and Cisco ASA software upgrades.
  • Update standard operating procedures and as-built documentation.
  • Provide network security technical support for IT projects that support or enhance business initiatives.
  • Be involved in upgrading and deploying new Cisco Firewall and Intrusion Detection technology, contributing to the design of new internal network topology, flows, and planned system isolation using firewalls.


Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of experience administering firewall technology.
  • Candidates MUST be a US Citizen and live in the continental US.
  • Hands-on experience with common network admin utilities and tools (e.g., Wireshark, tcpdump, SolarWinds, NetFlow, netstat, ipconfig).
  • Experience with cybersecurity infrastructure (e.g., Firewalls, Intrusion Detection, Proxies, DNS) and configuration.
  • Installation and operation experience with Cisco ASA (required) and Firepower (desired).
  • Proficiency in Cisco Security technology (ASA and Firepower).
  • Experience in Firewall Administration and Operation.
  • Advanced knowledge of network security best practices.
  • Proficiency in network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP) and secure communications.
  • Familiarity with common hacking techniques (e.g., malware, phishing) and using firewalls for effective countermeasures.
  • CCNA/CCNP certification preferred.
