Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking an Associate Director for the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) to join our collaborative, innovative, and supportive team. Reporting to the campus CTLE and embedded within the Daytona Beach campus’ College of Aviation, this position will play a key role in supporting faculty teaching, particularly within the College of Aviation.
As an integral part of our team and the College of Aviation, the Associate Director will:
Facilitate activities and programs aimed at improving teaching effectiveness for Daytona Beach faculty. Collaborate with the campus CTLE and the College of Aviation. Design and assess discipline-specific CTLE resources and programming tailored for faculty in the College of Aviation. Assist faculty in the College of Aviation and the broader campus community in designing, implementing, and assessing impactful and engaging instructional methods. Facilitate student midterm feedback, conduct classroom observations, and support grant recipients within the college. Promote research on effective teaching and learning practices.We are looking for an individual who thrives in a collaborative environment and is dedicated to fostering an innovative and evidence-based culture of teaching and learning.
Responsibilities include the following:
Support Faculty in Enhancing Instruction and Pedagogical Practices: Design, develop, facilitate, and assess activities to help faculty improve teaching and learning within their disciplines. Promote research on effective teaching practices through one-on-one consultations, workshops, book discussions, presentations, and other collaborative activities. Course and Assignment Redesign Consultations: Assist faculty in redesigning courses and assignments by providing guidance on instructional design concepts, current pedagogical practices, and the integration of digital teaching and learning tools. Faculty Technology Training and Consultation: Collaborate with the campus Instructional Technologist to provide training and support for faculty on the major instructional technologies offered by the University, including the learning management system, Canvas. CTLE Administrative Projects and Initiatives: Work with CTLE leadership, CTLE colleagues, and/or faculty on initiatives focused on researching and reporting on emerging teaching and learning methods and innovative pedagogical practices. Responsibilities can also include managing large-scale projects, presenting to leadership and academic departments to promote CTLE, supervising student assistants, and supporting other administrative activities as needed.
Qualifications
Ph.D. or other doctorate level equivalent. Minimum of three to five years of related work experience, with at least three years of higher education teaching experience. Expertise in effective pedagogical practices. Expertise in the effective use of technology to enhance instruction. Strong skills in performing administrative tasks and supervising personnel when needed. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong research skills in the areas of evidence-based teaching practices; experience in quantitative research methods and data analysis are especially desirable. Strong project management skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with faculty, CTLE colleagues, IT staff, and college/campus leadership. Ability to work without close supervision (i.e., a self-starter, strong organizational skills). Experience working with faculty in aviation, STEM, or another technical or trade- related field is preferred but not required.Candidates should provide 1) a cover letter stating experience as it relates to the job qualifications, 2) a curriculum vitae, and 3) contact information for three professional references.
