Position Summary

The University of New Mexico (UNM), College of Nursing (CON) is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as the AssociateDean of Academic Affairs. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the CON isa leader and champion in the areas of assessment, accreditation, mentorship,and curricular innovation. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs providescollege-level leadership, management, and oversight of all academic affairs ofthe CON. In this context academic affairs refers to: all activities involvingthe creation, maintenance, revision, or deletion of curriculum, courses,sequences of courses and programs of study offered by or within the College;all managerial activities related to that curriculum (including periodic assessments,required reporting, and accreditation/licensure requirements); the support offaculty and students in the delivery of that curriculum. This willinclude student performance reviews and discipline, grade appeals, and otherresolutions. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs serves as a key member ofCON Leadership team. This includes providing strategic leadership todevelop a future vision of the CON to enhance current and emerging programs andthe stewardship of resources, personnel, and collaboration within the CON, UNM,and across the state. This position reports to the Dean.


Collaborate with program directors,faculty, and others to foster a climate of academic excellence;interdisciplinary initiatives; diversity, equity, and inclusion, interpersonalcommunication; collaboration, and consensus building across theorganization. Work within the established faculty governance structure asappropriate regarding curriculum and policy development affecting programs andthe associated concentrations. Ensure the curriculum aligns with the mission ofthe CON as it relates to all accreditation standards and is delivered in anenvironment that emphasizes professionalism at all levels. Ability toimplement/execute and complete the evaluative process for CCNE assessment ofall curricular programs. Leads accreditation and the accreditationrenewal process: Ensuring that the institution’s academic programs meet thestandards set by accrediting bodies.

Inherent to this core qualification is the ability to make decisions that produce high-quality results by applying technical knowledge, analyzing problems, and calculating risks. Lead quality improvement processes related to academic affairs. The tenets of this qualification include but are not limited to accountability, customer service, decisiveness, entrepreneurship, problem solving and technical credibility. Business Acumen: This core qualification involves the ability to manage human, financial, and information resources strategically. The tenets of this qualification include but are not limited to financial management, human capital management and technology management. Knowledge and application of best and future business practices and tools. Quarterly Reports & Projections of future proposals and goals as well as goal attainment with status of present programs based on agreed upon established metrics ., Workforce, Financial stability etc. Leads in short- and long-range strategic planning with development of operational plans to effect goal achievement. Collecting and analyzing data related to student learning outcomes, program effectiveness, and other key metrics. Using assessment data to identify areas for improvement and make recommendation for programmatic changes.

Minimum Qualifications

A PhD, DNP or related doctorate Must be eligible for rank of Associate Professor or Professor Must be eligible for nursing licensure in New Mexico Record of progressive leadership and development while overseeing major academic and scholarship programs. Demonstrated leadership in the mentorship and development of faculty, students and staff

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with curricular development in undergraduate and graduate programs Experience or knowledge with accreditation processes Previous experience with academic and student affairs A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
