Summary:
An organization is seeking an experienced Senior Data Architect to contribute to a major initiative aimed at promoting equitable access to relevant data for educators, researchers, students, and families. The Data Architect will play a critical role in optimizing and expanding the state's education data warehouse. The ideal candidate will have the ability to understand business objectives, translate them into data models, and effectively communicate these models to both business and technical stakeholders. The role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to define data interface and messaging standards for system integration.
Responsibilities:
- Design and architect data warehouse models at various levels: conceptual, logical, physical, subject area, and application.
- Collaborate with other architects to ensure key requirements are preserved, and potential gaps are communicated to stakeholders.
- Govern design standards across projects, applications, and infrastructure.
- Develop short-term tactical solutions that align with long-term data management objectives.
- Establish governance processes for metadata management, ensuring accuracy and validity.
- Implement methods for tracking data quality, completeness, and redundancy, and take steps for improvement.
- Ensure data strategies and architectures comply with regulatory standards.
- Oversee data mapping, movement, and analytics to maintain high data quality.
- Address data-related challenges regarding systems integration and multi-platform compatibility.
- Develop and implement testing criteria to ensure the integrity and performance of the data architecture.
- Document the data architecture to maintain an accurate and current overview of the data environment.
- Identify opportunities for data reuse, migration, or retirement.
- Analyze business data to identify patterns and correlations among various data points.
- Develop and promote data management methodologies and standards.
- Create data flow diagrams and conduct data mapping analyses for integration processes.
- Maintain code in GitHub, ensuring version control and adherence to coding standards.
- Log all work accurately in JIRA, including estimates and time spent.
Required Qualifications:
- 4-7 years of experience in Data Integration, Data Architecture, Data Modeling, and implementation.
- 4-7 years of full lifecycle data warehousing experience.
- Hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting ETL/ELT processes.
- Knowledge of relational database designs, including normalization and dimensional models.
- Experience with state longitudinal data systems and preparing them for technological advancements.
- Proficiency with Apache Airflow and creating DAGs for data movement.
- Experience with Python coding.
- Ability to develop system/integration test plans and scenarios for data loads and extracts.
- Experience managing and monitoring production and non-production ETL sessions.
- Knowledge of data privacy practices and laws, particularly FERPA.
- Familiarity with standards in the Education domain such as CEDS, ED-FI, and SIF.
- Experience with student academic performance data and education data concepts.
- 3-5 years of BI experience from an ETL perspective.
- Ability to troubleshoot and identify the root causes of failures in data processes.
- Direct experience in implementing enterprise data management processes.
- Experience in Dimensional Modeling.
- Experience with Snowflake is a plus.
- Experience with modern data management in the cloud, preferably AWS (e.g., RDS, DynamoDB, S3).
