Develop Civil/Structural engineering specific solutions in support of plant activities, both emergent and scheduled. Including but not limited to: Engineering Change Packages Independent reviews of peer prepared engineering products Identify, evaluate, and advocate for resolution of structural related items to ensure safe and reliable operation. Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities; deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team. Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity. Conducts engineering and related studies; completes routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with increasing ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; increasingly competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems. Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures, proficient in technical and analytical competencies. Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files. Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

Basic /Required Qualifications

Nuclear Engineer III

Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience.

Sr Nuclear Engineer

Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience, OR minimum of 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.

Desired Qualifications

BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program. Demonstrated advancing application of engineering theories and principles. Increasingly proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, preparing, and presenting recommendations. Good written and oral communication skills. Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam Increasingly proficient in principles of project management. Experience in the utility industry. Advanced in application of industry Codes and Standards. Perform/learn ASME B31.1 and ASME Section III pipe stress analysis. Experience with STAAD, Mathcad, GT Strudl Base Plate (or similar).

Specific Requirements

Must qualify and meet requirements for nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance. This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty. Typical Office environment with flexibility to support plant operations. Must be able to work in an industrial environment safely.  Additional hours expected as workload/business need requires, to include but not limited to occasional work during nights and weekends or extended workdays to support nuclear regulatory compliance, unit outages, emergent equipment issues callouts, etc. Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed.

Working Conditions

Office and plant environment requires walking, light lifting, infrequent climbing and occasional exposure to temperature, noise, and radiation. Highly procedural and process-oriented structure, due to strict regulatory requirements. On-call duty responsibilities will apply. Ability to perform field walk-downs in an operating plant. Some travel off the Duke Energy system may be involved.
