WHAT IS THE JOB?The Housing Specialist works in the Greater Sacramento area to assess and support adults with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities to access affordable housing services as well as to maintain their current housing. On top of being a touchstone for people looking for housing services this position spends a lot of time in the field communicating with landlords, county and city entities, and forming relationships with community leaders in hopes of developing partnerships that can benefit our clients.
This position is also a teaching position The Housing Specialist will help develop the skills of the clients we serve so they can navigate payee systems, credit and financial systems, and learn to oversee and maintain their own housing needs. For our currently-housed clients the Housing Specialist will assist with processing and scheduling residential repairs, accommodations for homes, and developing lasting relationships between residents and their landlords/renters.
SCHEDULEThe schedule for the Housing Specialist role is Monday through Friday from 8:30a to 5p (with a half-hour lunch).
LOCATIONThis position will serve the Greater Sacramento area and operates out of our office at 1722 Professional Drive in Sacramento. A large portion of this job's time will be spent in the field This is not a "sit at a desk all day" type of job The Housing Specialist will spend a lot of time meeting with clients both in office and out of office, with some days being spent entirely out in the field doing assessments, walkthroughs, and helping clients through housing application processes.
The rate of pay for this position is $24-$25 per hour.
JOB REQUIREMENTSIndividuals interested in our Housing Specialist position must have at least 1 year of relatable, verifiable experience working with the I/DD population as well as be a high school graduate or possess a GED or equivalent. This position also requires at least 1 year of experience accessing housing services and programs for individuals, a bonus if this experience specifically relates to the I/DD population.
This position requires driving, so current driver license, insurance, and clean driving record are requirements as well This position also requires data entry/note taking utilizing our agency database system, so adaptable computer skills are a must
Aside from the nuts and bolts of the job we are looking for energetic staff who base their success on the success of others. Patience, adaptability and creativity are musts for this position - maintaining a positive attitude is important
