This casual position requires a detail-oriented person with high technical abilities, good communications skills, and knowledge and experience with executing design plans. This individual will have the unique opportunity to create cutting-edge visual concepts, artwork, and layouts utilizing digital computer software to communicate ideas that engage, inspire, inform, and captivate users (internal and external). Reporting to the Program Director for Outreach and Engagement, this position will develop the overall layout and production design for various applications such as graphics, websites, marketing materials, presentations and internal / external events.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize engaging and illustrative infographics for training sites, presentations, brochures and reports.
  • Design various website elements, including attractive banners, splash images, prominent buttons, menus, and icons.
  • Source images (stock photos and video footage)
  • Design various marketing materials for center projects and programs, including flyers, brochures, promotional items, booklets, conference handouts, signage, and posters.
  • Create email marketing items, presentation materials and interactive event materials.
  • Create vibrant, informative and engaging presentations for various audiences.
  • Review materials created by others for standards and brand alignment.
  • Collaborate with various Center teams on design needs.
  • Quickly learn and integrate multiple Center project brand guidelines while adhering to the overall guidelines of Johns Hopkins University.
  • Resize assets for different devices ” tablet, mobile and web.
  • Juggle multiple projects simultaneously while effectively managing timelines and expectations.


Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Understanding of web design issues, including browser usability and cross-platform compatibility.
  • Responsive design.
  • Strong design and troubleshooting skills, as well as an eye for detail.
  • A solid foundation in typography, layout and design.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with transitions and dynamic interaction.
  • A penchant for details and organization, including the ability to prioritize tasks, communicate progress and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to effectively take direction and work both collaboratively and autonomously.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or related field.
  • Two year's experience and a portfolio.
