Tetra Tech’s commitment to hiring the best talent in the industry and helping them thrive professionally is stronger than ever. We are seeking working as a fatality monitor near Kewanee, Illinois. Field work includes working on average of 25 - 35 hours per week for 4 months with the potential to support other local projects after the 4 months.

The primary responsibility of these positions is to implement a post-construction fatality monitoring program at an operational wind facility. The program is inclusive of fatality searches and carcass persistence trials, adhering to standardized protocols as trained and keeping detailed data.

The field work begins in July 2024 and continues through October 2024. Fatality monitoring applicants must be willing to commit to two to four full field days a week, including travel to and from the field location. The technicians will be responsible for their own housing throughout the study period and a vehicle will be provided for work related travel and functions of the position. A housing stipend may be provided depending on certain circumstances.

Your Role:

·Implement a post-construction fatality monitoring program.

·Conduct fatality searches and carcass persistence trials.

·Follow standardized protocols and keep detailed data.

·Walk for extended periods and handle exposure to weather extremes and bird and bat carcasses.

·Work independently or in small crews, communicating and coordinating effectively with team members, offsite Tetra Tech supervisors, and site management teams.

·Follow all wind facility-specific and Tetra Tech safety protocols.

·Provide suitable footwear (reinforced-toed hiking boots) and weather-appropriate field gear.

Qualifications:

·Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, or equivalent degree preferred, but not required.

·Experience executing transect-based research preferred.

·Ability to identify bird and bat species.

·Good bird identification skills for species in the region.

·Prior field experience.

·Individuals currently seeking a degree and/or other enthusiastic workers are encouraged to apply.

·Ability to work independently and with others, and interact positively with project managers, clients, and landowners.

·Experience with 4x4 vehicles, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record.

·Skilled use of topographic maps, GPS units, and other field equipment.

·Ability to follow instructions from managers and collect precise and thorough data.

·Skilled with electronic data collection protocols and data submission timing requirements.

·Strong communication skills, positive attitude, and ability to accept guidance and constructive criticism.

·Candidates residing within 2 hours of Kewanee, Illinois are preferred.

·The field study site is located near Kewanee, Illinois.

·A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.

·Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

·Has ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 35 lbs. and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.

·Walking requirements are up to 8 miles in a day.
