Duty Schedule:

Flexible: Monday-Friday. January 17, 2023 - May 12, 2023 at 15 hours per work.

Summary/Objective of Position:

The 2023 Spring Semester Student Interns, students PUH 497-Public Health Research Methods Practicum, will participate in the seventeen-week program of scheduled activities, classroom instructions, and research project internship resulting in a research presentation to faculty, students and research mentors.


Description of Essential Functions of the Position

All participants to participate in all scheduled activities, not limited to:

a. participate actively in all in the classroom and activities scheduled by their mentors

b. work with faculty and staff in educational and training activities

c. students to attend presentations and lectures related to primary and secondary research in public health field

Participate in field placement in an on-going research or public health service agency.

Produce and present a presentation and assessment on subject matter at final week of program.

Record keeping:

a. keep record of work and classroom activities, as appropriate

b. maintaining of records for completing projects


QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience


Minimum:

Satisfactory grade in PUH 490-Public Health Research Methods.

Preferred: Be in final semester of the BS in Public Health program, ready to graduate in May of this semester.


Knowledge:

Basic biology and community health issues To promote self awareness, academic development / achievement, knowledge and skills, and seek academic counseling as needed. Have knowledge of word processing and other standard office software required. Data analysis skills as taught in Statistics, Epidemiology, and Research Methods courses.

Skills:

Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desired, but not mandatory Ability to demonstrate a considerable degree of fluency in speaking and writing in the English language Ability to comprehend and implement technical theories and applications

Abilities:

Ability to work with staff, and faculty and research mentors from diverse backgrounds Ability to follow instructions, work independently and demonstrate proficiency Ability to adhere to established College's Student Code of Conduct

Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:

Most activities will require long periods of sitting at a computer or studying to complete project or assignments Must be able to cope with being in a hot/dry climate and remote rural area of the Navajo Nation Must be able to do at least some of the work on-line and by ZOOM or other virtual work environment
