Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required at the time of hire or for the continuation of employment.
• A positive, enthusiastic attitude and a willingness to meet the needs of all children.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality relating to students and families.
• Must obtain CPR and first aid certification within the first few months of employment.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• Must be eligible for or possess a teaching license or Special Education Program Aide license #070 which requires three years of experience with children, or three years of college coursework, or a combination equivalent to three years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• District policies and procedures
• School policies and procedures
• Safety procedures within District and School

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written language form.
• Ability to read and interpret documents, federal, state, and/or DPI regulations and handbooks.
• Communicating with students in a way which fosters the development of a positive self-image.
• Exercising good judgment in dealings with students, parents, other staff and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:
• Ability to exercise good judgment and effectively solve problems.
• Utilizing problem-solving techniques in correcting and changing student behavior.
• Using discretion in handling confidential information about students.
• Modeling and reinforcing positive behaviors which are expected of students.

PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, walk and hear. The employee may frequently twist, bend or crouch. The employee may occasionally lift, and/or move, push or pull up to 75 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
• This job is performed in a school setting both indoors (classrooms/cafeteria/hallways) and outdoors.
• Physical assistance with students including lifting as needed.
