Summary

Reports to the Director, Beacon Health & Fitness. Responsible for budget of fitness programming & services, designing, marketing, administering and evaluating a broad range of high quality health, fitness and sport and recreation programs and services. Specific areas of accountability include fitness evaluations and exercise prescriptions, member orientations, personal training, aerobics and aquatics programs, fitness clinics, recreational and sports activities, member incentive programs, corporate wellness screenings, massage services & registered dietitian. Manages specialized activity coordinators and other professional health and fitness staff as assigned.

Designs, markets, administers and evaluates a broad range of high quality health, fitness and sport and recreation programs and services and ensures a high level of member satisfaction and member retention by:

Integrating the fitness staff at Beacon Health & Fitness and its processes in close alignment with the Membership Office to support improved communications and enhance the member intake and retention efforts. Managing, evaluating and measuring BHF's, Pure Pilates & Beacon Sports Performance (BSP) adult member retention strategy by offering and ensuring that all health and fitness programs and services meet the highest possible standards of quality. Providing input into the departmental fitness and sports services budget and effectively managing the budget to ensure BHF goals and objectives are met. Working closely with the Director to develop, implement and enforce consistent policies and procedures for all areas of fitness, recreation and sports programming. Coordinating and developing a comprehensive quarterly schedule of special events, team incentive programs and other programming events that foster member retention and provide added value to member services. Supervising the development, implementation and management of a high quality, revenue producing personal training program. Supervising the development, implementation and management of a high quality group exercise program. Oversees off-site supervisory and sports performance programs. Working with the Director and other management staff to ensure that the enrollment process is smoothly and effectively carried out and other customer service satisfaction metrics are achieved. Developing and conducting fitness-related presentations within the hospital system. Maintaining accurate records, soliciting member feedback and making recommendations to support these findings. Supervising the development, implementation and management of high quality fitness programming & group fitness classes.

Manages assigned health and fitness staff to provide superior quality customer service and focus contributions toward meeting member retention goals and BHF & BSP objectives by:

Tracking retention figures and communicating this information to all BHF staff as well as information about initiatives designed to address the retention issue. Recruiting, hiring, training and evaluating the performance of the staff at Beacon Health & Fitness. Overseeing of all staff scheduling and payroll related to Fitness Specialists, Personal Trainers, Group Exercise Instructors and Contract Labor. Prioritizing work assignments and scheduling staff to deliver schedule of programs, services, special events and activities to ensure delivery of innovative, diversified and quality programs. Evaluating the staff and conducting periodic in-service workshops to ensure appropriate exercises and other programming is taught to members. Implements and monitors quality control measures. Developing and conducting safety trainings and tracking of all safety events, inspections and drills along with incident events and assists in joint commission training at BHF. Assist with Medical Fitness Association facility certification. Assist with managing budget and labor for Fitness, Personal Training and Group Fitness. Assists with prioritizing all Beacon Health & Fitness Marketing done by coordinator for BHF. Lead of all Best Medicine Programs, Wellness SurroundCare and integration between Physicians, DPT & BHF Team.

Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:

Completing other job related assignments and special projects as directed.

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared. Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes. Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes. Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year. Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department. Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self. Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance. Complies with established organization and department policies. Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience

The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or related field and/or 5+ years' experience in the fitness field; master's degree is strongly preferred. Minimum of five years of experience, management experience preferred, with direct accountability for programs and managing staff is preferred. Must have a valid State driver's license.

Knowledge & Skills

Exhibits a strong sales and marketing background, preferably with experiences specific to the health and fitness industry. Possesses a wide range of knowledge of the fitness and wellness industry, exercise testing and prescription and aerobics and group exercise classes, strength & conditioning programming, sport and recreation and aquatic programs. Demonstrates the understanding of basic principles of marketing, motivation, exercise science and safety, behavior modification and emergency procedures. Requires the leadership ability to develop, market, administer and evaluate a wide variety of health and fitness programs, including the ability to create an integrated calendar of fitness, recreational and aquatic programs and services into a unified concept. Demonstrates the interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) necessary to articulate ides clearly and concisely, to make effective presentations, to develop and maintain positive working relationships, and to interact effectively with a wide range of internal and external contacts in a variety of situations. Demonstrates a sincere interest in improving the health and well-being of the general public. Requires the management skills necessary to successfully manage a large variety of staff and services to deliver high quality customer service. Possesses a personal commitment to positive fitness and health practices and presents an image consistent with a fit and healthy lifestyle. Requires proficiency in computer applications, (i.e., email, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.). Must be available to work at other Beacon Health & Fitness sites as requested.
