The Social Work department is here to help patients, their families, and their caregivers cope with the diagnosis of cancer and to eliminate psychosocial complications as significant barriers to care in Texas, the nation and the world through outstanding integrated programs in patient care, research, education and prevention.

Summary

The primary purpose of the Social Work Supervisor position is to supervise social work personnel to include recommendation for hire, employee development, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions. Additionally to actively participate and lead program development and assessment to ensure social work services are consistent with the needs of the patient population and strategic initiatives.

Key Functions

1. Provides clinical, administrative, and supportive supervision including employee supervision, clinical and professional development, performance evaluation, and recommendation for hiring candidates to ensure high quality social work services to patients and families.

2. Works with the interdisciplinary teams to determine the psychosocial needs of the patient populations within supervisory purview. Evaluates and ensures the provision of quality social work services to assigned multidisciplinary teams.

3. Contributes to departmental leadership functions including, but not limited to building alliances throughout the institution, facilitating departmental compliance with policies, processes, and patient care service delivery.

4. Leads or actively participates in institutional and departmental initiatives (i.e. Social Work Month, Employee Recognition Month, Welcome Committee, Research Committee).

5. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Required: Master's degree in Social Work (MSW or MSSW) from an accredited program approved by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Preferred: Post-graduate courses in supervision, management, consultation, and administration.

Experience

Required: Four years post Master's degree in Social Work (MSW or MSSW) to include three years clinical social work experience and a minimum of two years post LCSW. One year of lead or supervisory experience.

Preferred : Three years of experience gained at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Experience as a Field Instructor for graduate level Social Work students.

Licensure

Required: Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Texas and must obtain credentialing as a Board approved Supervisor by the State of Texas within nine months of hire.
