Job Description

Under the direction of the Executive Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Associate Executive Director will provide leadership and direction of the day-to-day operation, cause-driven impact and strategic direction of assigned areas. This position will lead a team of directors, coordinators, and front-line staff to ensure the best-in-class execution of all branch operations, to include youth development, membership, and healthy living. As a member of the leadership team, the Associate Executive Director will create and embrace a diverse and inclusive YMCA community to grow our local impact, activate our global network and multiply our mission.

Qualifications Bachelor degree in related field or minimum of 7 years related experience. Five years supervisory experience in a related field with comparable program growth. Demonstrated experience in recruiting, hiring, training and development of volunteers and staff. YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification or ability to attain certification within 3 years of hire. Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to effectively work/interact with diverse populations. Computer literate. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook and database management. High ethical standards and possess strong personal and professional integrity. Ability to successfully obtain certification in CPR/AED and First Aid. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

Ability to work a 40-hour week with irregular work hours. Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor), while maintaining alertness for extended periods of time. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate. Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time. Essential Functions

Programmatic Responsibilities

Supervise and provide leadership, strategic direction and alignment of programming with a focus on increasing youth, family, and adult connection and involvement. Direct and monitor strategies to ensure monthly and annual goals are met in assigned departments, including registration levels, year-over-year retention, penetration rates, and participant progression. Ensure Program portfolio fully aligns with Association strategies, structure and quality standards. Continuously evaluate the scope of programs to identify new opportunities. Particular focus should be given to growing existing business lines while creating new “creating, develop, implement, and monitor programs and services that serve the needs of members and program participants and ensure safe, clean, and responsive operations.. Build a network of volunteers through effective recruitment, training and stewardship. Build relationships with community partners with specific focus on off-site programs, community facilities, public & private schools and parks & recreation. Build a culture of legendary program quality and experience in all assigned areas. Develop and lead strategies to ensure members and/or program participants connect with each other and the YMCA. Partner with marketing and communications department to ensure effective promotion and visibility of all program areas. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Lead and maintain a culture of integrity, change capacity, determination, courage, teamwork, inclusivity and appreciation and promote the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, caring and faith. Lead direct reports as an interdependent and unified team. Recruit, hire, train and supervise a highly-skilled and trained team of full-time and part-time servant leaders. Utilize Association tools and standards in completing and administering performance evaluations and individual development plans, and ensure that such is facilitated throughout all levels of branch leadership. Plan and organize staff meetings to ensure consistent communications, directions and accountability. 

Operational Responsibilities  

Work symbiotically with Executive Director and the Community Leadership Team to develop, implement and manage operating plans that promote program and membership growth for the YMCA. In conjunction with supervisor and the YMCA Leadership team, help ensure the best-in-class operation of all branches within the Y Community. This includes serving as evening and/or weekend LOD (Leader on Duty) and travel between locations when necessary. Develop and manage annual budget. Demonstrate sound fiscal management skills. Ensure a culture of inclusion that builds and celebrates diversity within the Y and our community. Participate in Board development activities, which include Board Member prospecting, cultivation, recruitment, training and development. Ensure safety and maintenance of facilities, grounds and equipment to minimize risk to members, participants and the Association. Provide leadership to the YMCA Annual Campaign, including training, cultivation, and solicitations. Provide leadership support to board and volunteer committees, including financial development activities. Cause-Driven Leadership Competencies

Operational Effectiveness: Integrates multiple thinking processes to make decisions. Involves members and community in the development of programs and activities. Ensures execution of plans. Institutes sound accounting procedures, investment policies, and financial controls. Assigns clear accountability and ensures continuous improvement. 

Personal Growth: Fosters a learning environment embracing diverse abilities and approaches. Creates a sense of urgency and positive tension to support change. Anticipates challenges that can sidetrack or derail growth and personal learning. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.
