Job Summary:

Mentors and trains other mammography technologists and coordinates schedule with other departments to ensure the day-to-day activities for Women’s center. Works in conjunction with the Manager of Radiology, Diagnostic Services, Radiologists, and other personnel to supervise and perform technical procedures.

Essential Functions:

Writes and maintains diagnostic procedures and staff compliance of procedures.  Manages general oversight of students.  Provides input for all mammography technologist evaluations and competencies. Performs mammograms, bone densities and biopsies to department procedures as well as aid with such tasks as dressing and changing to seriously ill, injured, or disabled patients. Reviews and evaluates digital images, or computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.  Explains procedures and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan.  Monitors patients' conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physician. Uses radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations while always ensuring the safety of patients and staff.  Explains procedures and observe patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan.  Records, processes, and maintains patient data and treatment records and prepare reports. Coordinates work with clerical personnel and other technologists. Demonstrates new equipment, procedures, and techniques to staff, and provide technical assistance. Performs scheduled quality assurance studies, minor emergency repairs on equipment as well as perform maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications: An associate degree in X-ray Technology or related field with 5 years’ experience in a hospital radiology department. Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT). American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: According to the needs of the organization, some incumbents in this job class may be required to obtain additional specific technical certifications. Quality Assurance knowledge and commitment to performance improvement. Knowledgeable of MQSA, ASRT and Federal mammography rules. Knowledge of radiological equipment, techniques, and safety; anatomy/physiology and disease process; quality control in a Radiology Department. Skilled in building interpersonal relationships, monitoring patient responses, assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, and problem solving.

Working Conditions: May occasionally be exposed to infectious diseases or hazardous materials.

Physical Requirements: Constantly walk, see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, bend/twist, talk/hear. Frequently stand, reach, push/pull, stoop/kneel/crouch, lift/carry 50+ lbs.
