Summary :

Provides in-depth financial support and navigation to patients in regards to insurance coverage, medical billing, out-of-pocket treatment expenses, cost of living expenses and assistance for financial hardships, while providing a high level of financial literacy to the patient. Collaborates with providers to ensure the most cost-effective treatment is considered. Works with insurance providers to insure proper and timely payments for all related service line services and acts as advocate to the patient when billing problems occur and to eliminate bad debt. Provides financial counseling and related support regarding designated service line services to patients, departments, physicians and payers. Responsible for effectively communicating with patients, their financial obligations while going through treatment, surgery and/or medical care and provides financial assistance through programs offered by various resources along the care continuum. Interacts with patients, physicians, insurance companies, and other members of the hospitals’ staff for scheduling, pre-registration and billing. Utilizes system tools extensively to ensure accurate and timely patient financial information is in place.

Formal Education Required :
-Three years post-secondary education and/or experience which has provided knowledge of the medical insurance process/insurance verification and customer service skills.

Experience and Training Required :
- Patient navigation experience preferred.

Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
a. Possess or ability to obtain Financial Navigation certification I & II from the Association of Community Cancer Centers Financial Advocacy Network within 6 months of hire.
b. Possess or ability to obtain certification of completion of Financial Navigation Training and Insurance Optimization from the NaVectis Group, LLC within 6 months of hire.
c. Knowledge of verification and authorization requirements for Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, managed care plans, workers compensation and other third party payers.
d. Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity. Must interact with patients, families and other customers with courtesy, tact and discretion. Ability to interact with individuals from any social, economic and cultural status.
e. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively and efficiently with patients, families, and all members of the multi-disciplinary team, both orally and in writing.
f. Strong analytical and financial assessment abilities as well as the ability to maintain a close attention to a variety of details required in order to perform duties efficiently while being able to gather and present information in an organized manner.
g. Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize in an ever-changing environment without sacrificing quality, delivery or cost efficiency. Must be multitask oriented and able to function in a constantly changing environment.
h. Ability to provide and promote professional, efficient and congenial customer service through all communication and interaction with patients, customers and co-workers.
i. Able to actively listen to patients/visitors with understanding, empathy and professionalism.
j. Ability to empathize with patients and families undergoing physical, spiritual and emotional stress.
k. Ability to travel from location to location throughout the workday.

Level of Physical Demands:
a. Sedentary: Exerts up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.

$19.35/hr - $23.22/hr

The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members when determining offers. Please keep in mind that the range that is listed is the full base salary range. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical.
