JOB SUMMARY

Phlebotomist daily task

1. Maintains a clean and safe phlebotomy area; monitors inventory, restocks supplies, orders supplies as needed.
2. Follows proper PPE and safety protocols
3. Monitors lab patient registration/check-in status; periodically checks the lobby and interacts with patients to assure that all lab patients are registered and accounted for.
4. Retrieves and reviews appropriate paperwork/supplies/orders related to patient's appointment prior to escorting to the phlebotomy area (drawlist, labels, specimen collection information/instructions, tubes, etc..)
6. Greets the patient with a smile and escorts to the phlebotomy area; verifies patient date of birth and identification. Explains procedures and answers patient questions. Exhibits professionalism and patience when interacting with patients.
7. Collects specimens according to the policies and procedures; verifies specimen integrity. Exhibits skill in phlebotomy procedures with minimal discomfort for the patient and minimal recollections.
8. Processes specimens for in-house as well as send-out testing. Accurately documents collection information into the computer system; processes electronic and / or manual orders for the send-out testing.
9. Follows all policies, procedures and regulations of the laboratory
10. Readily offers to perform duties in other areas of the lab once assigned work is completed; assists co-workers without prompting.
