Position Information Job Title GRADUATE ASSISTANT - Outdoor Recreation - Campus Recreation & Wellness Department Campus Recreation and Wellness Essential Functions The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by the individual within this classification. The Graduate Assistant of Outdoor Recreation at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) will learn, practice and develop skills that lead to becoming an excellent candidate for a career in outdoor recreation. This role will assist in the leadership of Outdoor Venture Center (OVC) programs. Applicants must have experience and knowledge in outdoor pursuit activities. Experience in outdoor equipment rental or climbing wall operations is preferred, with willingness to learn skills in other areas. Graduate Assistants receive a monthly stipend and work an average of 20 hours/week while while enrolled in a Graduate Degree Program at UNO. Assist with the supervision, administration, planning, promoting and expansion of Outdoor Venture Center programs and services. Management and development of student staff. Includes recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating staff. Assist with supervision and development of Rental Center and Climbing Wall student managers. Instruction and leadership of OVC programs. Collaborate with Campus Partners to create unique offerings and attract new participants to programs. Create and compile program specific reports. Coordinate and implement outdoor recreation programs for the campus community. Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of department-wide special events. Ability to drive University vehicles for OVC programs including SUV’s an 12 passenger vans. Travel required for some programming. Work Schedule Work week scheduled around classes and programs. Programming includes occasional evenings, weekends, and University breaks. Additional Duties Assist with staffing coverage of program service areas as needed.

Assist with inspection, maintenance, and repair of program equipment.

Other duties related to your appointment may be assigned in the course of your employment. Required Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in related field. Experience in at least two outdoor pursuit activities; including but not limited to rock climbing, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, hiking, land navigation, cross country skiing, and camping. Acceptance in a University of Nebraska at Omaha degree program. Desire to mentor and collaborate with college students. Leadership and supervisory skills. Wilderness First Aid and CPR/AED certifications, or an ability to acquire within 6 months of on-boarding. Preferred Qualifications Wilderness First Responder, Outdoor Emergency Care Technician, or equivalent first aid certification. First-Aid and CPR/AED instructor certification. PCIA Climbing Wall Instructor, AMGA Single Pitch or Climbing Wall Instructor, or equivalent. Previous recreation leadership/supervisory experience. Experience in staff development and event/program planning.
