SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the school site principal and/or the Washoe County School District Title I Department, the FACE will provide services to increase parent and family engagement/involvement in the education of their children; support staff in their work with children and families; develop, coordinate and implement various programs and activities related to the needs of the children and families; support and meet program goals and objectives in the areas of parent and family engagement/involvement and education. Incumbent performs related work as required.


EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists school-site and district office personnel in planning and implementing parent and family engagement programs; acts as liaison between the school, home and community to promote education support programs and provide an on-going channel of communication for participants, parents and families and the community; assists in developing and conducting parent and family education workshops, staff in-service training, and promotional presentations; recruits parent volunteers for parent education activities; may conduct home visits relative to parent and family engagement/involvement; may participate in various advisory group meetings and committees; and solicits the participation of the local business community in identifying and developing programs.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

1. High school diploma or equivalent; some college experience is desirable;

AND

2. Two year experience with students or parents in school or community agencies.

Knowledge of: Basic parenting skills, school and District organizational structure and functioning; District and community resources as related to the position.

Skill at: Communicating effectively with families, education personnel, and various agencies and programs; recognizing and appreciating cultural differences, and maintaining respect for culturally diverse backgrounds; maintaining confidentiality of information; interpreting and explaining district policies and procedures as they relate to the position; preparing and giving accurate written and/or oral reports, and reviewing and interpreting the reports of others; and maintaining constructive relationships with those contacted at work.


Licenses/Certificates: None Required.

Special Considerations: Must be willing and able to work a varied schedule.
