The Department of Art, Communication, and English at Carlow University invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position within its English and Creative Writing programs.

Responsibilities will be equally divided between teaching undergraduate English and Creative Writing courses (12 credits/year) and serving as an Assistant to the Director of the MFA in the Creative Writing Program (12 credits/year). Other responsibilities include service to the undergraduate English, Creative Writing, and MFA programs, which will include planning and execution of the MFA program’s January residency. 

Requirements/Qualifications: Earned MFA or PhD in Creative Writing, English, or related field  Minimum one year of full-time teaching experience, or equivalent experience, in an institution of higher learning  Preferred area of specialization Fiction and/or Creative Non-Fiction with ability to teach other creative writing genres  Appropriate scholarship including publications, readings, presentations, and/or panels  Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills  The ideal candidate will be committed to envisioning the future of liberal arts education in a rapidly changing environment; have experience working with diverse populations; have a demonstrated ability to engage students in issues of race and equity; and be able to articulate how they will contribute to Carlow University’s Catholic, Mercy mission and values through their teaching, scholarship, and service.
