Responsibilities

This position performs stem cell enumeration and viability, as well as T cell enumeration and phenotyping on apheresis products, bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cells, and umbilical cord blood.

Responsibilities:

Perform multi-parameter flow cytometric stem cell and T cell analysis, including enumeration, phenotyping, and viability assays on apheresis products, bone marrow, tissue and umbilical cord blood. Perform equipment maintenance as indicated by manufacturer, including instrument set up, calibration, cleaning, and quality control. Lab procedures related to sample processing and preparation, testing, data acquisition, analysis, report generation, and maintaining complete and accurate records of all testing performed. Ensure accuracy of tests performed with a strict adherence to the applicable laboratory SOPs. Perform and properly document all quality control activities and instrument malfunctions. Provide results and reports in a timely and accurate manner. Perform accurate analysis of samples and entry of results into computer system. Follow the applicable laboratory SOPs and remain competent in those procedures as well as enhance continuing education and skill improvement. Trouble shoot and resolve technical problems. Assist with writing, updating, and maintaining procedures related to Flow Cytometry. Train current and new staff on flow cytometry procedures. Perform lymphocyte subset proficiency testing. Work schedule will depend on laboratory workload and may require flexibility. Provide on-call coverage if required, may include after-hours stay and occasional weekends. Prepare reports. Perform inventory management. Attend conferences, seminars, workshops, etc. to meet continuing education requirements. Any related duties as assigned. Validation of new reagents (including lot to lot verification), assays, and FLOW panels.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s or higher degree in clinical laboratory technology, or

Bachelor's or higher degree from a program with a major in biology, chemistry, or the physical sciences, and an advanced certificate in clinical laboratory technology, or

Education and training sufficient to qualify for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist prior to 2009 as specified in NYS-ED Regulation 79-13.4.

Experience in Flow Cytometry

American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification

Experience:

Minimum of one year of experience in a Clinical Flow Cytometry Laboratory.

NYSDOH Clinical Laboratory Technologist License

NYSDOH Restricted License in Flow Cytometry

Knowledge:

Basic knowledge of FDA and NYSDOH regulations and AABB and FACT standards.

Professional knowledge of basic laboratory supplies and equipment.

Working knowledge of computerized systems.

Basic understanding of quality control procedures.

Knowledge of a variety of software applications (Microsoft Office Suite, FlowJo, FACSuite).

For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed hourly salary is $44.89/hr. to $52.82/hr. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant’s skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.
