Job Description

The Environmental Engineer will work under the general direction of the Environmental Manager and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining procedures and programs to minimize environmental risks and ensure regulatory compliance by demonstrating technical environmental knowledge and performing the following duties.

Safety
The primary responsibility involves ensuring personal safety and the safety of team members by wearing appropriate PPE, which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, and foot, hand, head, and eye protection. Additionally, it is critical to report any unsafe conditions or incidents in a timely manner to their supervisor or any member of management.

 

Compliance
Assist in the development of strategies to meet regulatory requirements, ensuring facility compliance with Federal and State Air regulations, RCRA, SPCC, SWPP, NPDES, DOT, and EPCRA, and interpreting data and observation to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry guidelines while advising management accordingly.

 

Job Knowledge
Understanding of how to calculate potential-to emit calculation for air permit applications and modifications, being familiar with Method 9 and Method 22 visible emission observations, calculating material composition for EPCRA reporting, and maintaining a solid understanding of innovative technologies developed by the industry and government regulators.

 

Operations
Lead environmental project activities, including operation and maintenance of air pollution control equipment, feasibility studies, and other plans; responds to environmental incidents by either correcting them or contacting the Environmental Manager, Maintenance, or areas supervisor as applicable; develops and implements sampling and monitoring plans, including installing, operating, and maintaining equipment; and assists in the operation of an effective environmental management system.

 

Data Management
Prepare reports such as environmental monitoring and shipping reports for review and submission to regulatory agencies, reviews all new products, chemicals, and projects for environmental impact, maintain SDS documentation for the plant, and prepare technical documentation for management’s use when dealing with regulatory agencies and other internal/external needs.

 

Environmental Culture
Look for opportunities to involve employees in environmental process changes and overall improvement efforts, assess the environmental risk of activities and advise team members on the impact, and proactively promote the McWane Way principles.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities
Work with plant supervisors to coordinate hourly employees in accurately completing environmentally related Job duties.

 

Physical Requirement
The job requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, talking, and hearing. Occasionally, the employee must climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and taste or smell. They must lift or move up to 55 pounds occasionally. The job demands specific vision abilities, including close and distance vision.


Qualifications

Candidates for the Environment Engineer I position must:
• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or mechanical engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
• Have at least 3 years of experience in environmental management within heavy manufacturing.
• Be familiar with federal, state, and local environmental standards and regulations.
• Have an advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft programs (i.e.) MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
• Ability to cultivate effective relationships across all organizational levels.

 

Candidates for the Environment Engineer I position should be able to demonstrate:
• Ability and eagerness to be proficient with quality and meet prescribed production output objectives.
• Teamwork by helping and volunteering across a variety of tasks.
• Ability to work in a foundry and support facilities environments, which can be hot and dirty, and may occasionally be exposed to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, outside weather, and extreme heat, with a usually moderate noise level in the work environment.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and always follow all safety rules/procedures.
• Excellent attendance and punctuality.
