QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of college OR a high school diploma and a passing score on the Work Keys test. (administered by Rockingham Community College) 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Month Position 

PAY GRADE: Teacher Assistant 56

OTHER: Must obtain a bus license and complete monitor training, however, driving and monitoring are limited for this position due to requirements to meet the student(s) Individual Education Plan (IEP). 

NATURE OF WORK: The Language Facilitator's primary role as a member of the educational team is to facilitate the use of assistive technology utilized by student(s) to communicate with classroom teachers, administrators, peers, and other school staff. 

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Facilitates the use of the student(s) mode of communication between students, general education teachers, and other school staff as appropriate. Collaborates with the teacher and other school staff to ensure the needs of the student(s) are met. Provides instructional reinforcement as needed. Ensures the student(s) has access to their communication device (or their mode of communication) across all school environments in accordance with student(s) IEP. Assists in collecting data for student progress monitoring through logs, etc. as determined by the educational team.  Gradually leads student(s) toward more responsibility for his/her own education and communicative competence. Expectations for language facilitators at the primary level are more comprehensive than at the intermediate level, with the goal of gradually phasing out the service to an individual student as appropriate. Serves as a member of the educational team(s) involved with particular student(s), and participates as appropriate in the Individual Education Program (IEP) process, in-servicing and consulting with staff regarding facilitation services and teaming with appropriate teachers and staff. Follows all school policies as stated in individual school handbooks and performs other duties required of all building staff as directed by the building principal to promote the safety and welfare of all students in the school, as long as duties do not interfere with the primary role of facilitating communication. Assists teachers and administration with duties that contribute to the enhancement of the classroom environment while not interfering with the primary duty facilitating communication.  Custodial care as needed  Must be willing to obtain a bus drivers license
