Reporting to Dr. Miko Rose, the Founding Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, the Chief Development Officer – College of Osteopathic Medicine will be responsible for oversight, direction, and management of all aspects of fundraising for the IUP COM. This will include major donor identification, planning and execution of strategic initiatives, solicitations, and development of continued relationships. In addition, the CDO will manage the identification and reporting of grants and proposals. The CDO is responsible for managing a prospect and donor portfolio in various stages of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship with special emphasis placed on the oversight of project initiation and sponsorship for a newly developing COM. The CDO will manage this key initiative by assessing the overall fundraising potential of the area; creating comprehensive short term and long-term development plans; building strong relationships with potential donors and collaborating with key senior leadership at the university for a coordinated fundraising campaign. The successful applicant for this role will increase fundraising dollars and donors over a five-year period by developing major and principal gift opportunities. The CDO will also work collaboratively with other university personnel to identify new sources for public and private grant funding, write proposals for grants, and maintain publicly funded grants.

A shared commitment to making a change in healthcare;  Expert working knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques; Deep knowledge of all aspects of the location, including current issues of concern for both the campus and throughout higher education and healthcare, generally, with focus on the infrastructure of health care opportunities and challenges in rural underserved communities; Superior written and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies; An ability to make persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for a location in order to secure gifts; • Excellent organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills; Expert project and program management skills, including skills in setting and meeting program or project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints; Demonstrated success at raising gifts by developing and implementing cultivation and solicitation proposals for major and principal gifts (minimum $250,000) from individuals, corporations, and foundations, both local and national; Proven experience in the full spectrum of development including: grant writing, gift policies, solicitations, stewardship, donor recognition, high level boards, support groups, and administration; Meaningful experience with a successful fundraising campaign; Demonstrated strong organizational, managerial, and leadership skills with ability to lead by example and encourage collaborative efforts; Proven success as a development officer in a highly sophisticated donor-centered fundraising environment as a direct-line fundraiser; Strong interpersonal and team-building skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, faculty, staff, donors, volunteers, and university officials, with an emphasis on tact, diplomacy, flexibility, collaboration, professionalism, and discretion; Demonstrated knowledge in the technique of donor prospect research with the ability to extract the pertinent and critical information from various sources; Strong sense of ethical conduct that will inspire confidence with colleagues and donor prospects, while maintaining confidentiality in all matters as they relate to sensitive donor relations issues; Experience in developing budgets, projecting budgetary needs, and using financial information for comprehensive budgetary reports; and, Flexibility working in a dynamic, start-up program environment Candidates must have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
