Responsibilties:

 

  • This position is responsible for developing reliable, efficient mechanical designs for custom injection mold tooling to support a variety of shot sizes, cavities, polymer types, and finishes.
  • Develop processes and standards to support low volume and rapid prototype tooling to match product development needs.
  • Organize, document, and present technical design reviews.
  • Work closely with Plant Manufacturing Engineers (internal customers) to customize solutions for specific requirements.
  • Work closely with Tool Makers and Builders to ensure optimum manufacturing and build techniques are applied to the mechanical designs.
  • Work with Vendors to procure purchased components that fit specifications for mechanical applications.
  • This position will work closely with other manufacturing functions such as manufacturing engineering, production control, quality engineering, purchasing, safety, environmental, and manufacturing management to develop and implement solutions consistent with the goals of the Company.
  • This position may report to a Senior Level Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering Manager, or other Departmental Manager
  • Assist with project justification including recommendations, make-vs-buy analysis, layout, cost impact, and schedule activities as required.
  • Support the implementation of processes including equipment procurement, coordination of installation, process capability prove-out, training, process documentation, work standard measurement and production start-up.
  • Implement process improvements including activities such as project management, departmental processes, effort/benefit analysis, risk assessments, etc.  

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 8-15 years related experience.
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Must have valid driving privileges.
  • Occasional travel (0-5%)
  • Occasional overnight stays (0-5%)
  • 2+ years of professional experience designing and supporting tooling solutions.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with engineering practices for designing custom injection mold solutions for various type of product designs and polymers.
  • Proficient in the use of CAD to generate 3D solid model designs and dimensioning.
  • Familiarity with industry policies and procedures to ensure safety.
  • Experience in raw material selection, machining, and assembly for mechanical designs.
  • Relevant experience in:
    • Design for manufacturing.
    • Machine tools
    • Precision tooling
    • Drafting and Tolerancing

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelor of Engineering preferred, Associate of Engineering Technology acceptable with demonstrated experience.
  • Motivated self-starter and team player, works well with others and interacts effectively and efficiently with internal or external people and groups.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point) and general computer literacy
  • Must be a creative thinker, able to think outside the box, results-oriented, and focused.
  • Analytical thinker and problem solver
  • Highly organized, ability to prioritize a varied and fast-changing workload.
