Description & Requirements

The Sabeti Lab (, Harvard University, Broad Institute) and The Shalek Lab (, MIT, Broad Institute, and Ragon Institute) have a joint opening for a highly motivated Research Scientist I interested in studying host-pathogen interactions at a single-cell resolution. Research directions will center on interrogating the dynamic interplay between host factors and viral pathogens during hemorrhagic fever virus infection and understanding host immune response following HPV and HIV infection. The core techniques learned and applied for these studies will be single cell RNA-sequencing to characterize the transcriptomic state of thousands of cells from genetic screens and patients. The projects will entail meticulous study design, interacting with clinicians, scRNA-seq library construction and sequencing, data analysis and interpretation, and communication to the lab and greater scientific community. Due to the large number of samples and affiliated labs and personnel, the position requires critical attention to detail, excellent communication, and time-management skills. The position offers an opportunity to gain fundamental skills leading a team working in an interdisciplinary and technologically driven environment and to gain access to the intellectual resources available across all three institutes in Cambridge.

Job Duties:

The Research Scientist’s role will be to lead the project and support the Principal Investigators and collaborators of the study. The scientist will be responsible for coordinating and executing experiments and data analysis in Cambridge throughout the year.

Key responsibilities:

Participate in designing immune profiling experiments infectious disease research Familiar with state-of-art technology related to bulk RNAseq, single cell RNAseq, TCR profiling, and BCR profiling. Analyze and integrate multi-omics data and provides scientific insights to innate and adaptive immune responses induced by infectious diseases Communicate study findings efficiently and present data at various meetings as projects progress. Collaborate extensively with those from other scientific disciplines from within the group and from external partners.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Immunology or Computational Biology with a focus on the infectious diseases, or related fields. 2+ years of relevant research experience in applying single cell immune profiling approaches to solving biomedical problems. Strong time management and communication skills to balance multiple experiments between several collaborators Ability to multi-task and work independently under pressure Ability to work in a team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize and balance work from multiple individuals Extensive experience in analyzing multi-omics data (e.g., genetics, bulk RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, spatial omics, proteomics, etc.) for biomedical research. Proficient coding/scripting in Python, R. Familiar with Linux environments, high-performance computing and/or cloud computing environment and broad experience with open-source bioinformatics tools to generate immunological insight. High productivity, evidenced by high-quality collaborative science and research publications in peer reviewed journals on which they are named co-authors.
