The State of Utah Department of Commerce, Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL) is looking for a customer service professional to fill their vacant Office Specialist II position. 

**This position is not eligible for full-time telework. Training will take place in the office for at least the first week; if eligibility requirements are met, teleworking up to 3-4 days/per week may be available; at least one day is required in the office. The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 8 am to 5 pm, but flexibility may be available.**

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

In this position you will help Utahans with a professional license successfully complete a probationary term by monitoring their conditions and requirements. Visit  to learn more.  In this position your duties may include, but not be limited to the following:

Preparing and processing documents; reviewing for accuracy and completeness; updating information and evaluating against policy; comparing elements for consistency or logical relationships.

Presenting to boards and committees. 

Working closely with compliance manager, bureau manager, attorney general's office, and boards.

Reviewing cases, applications, files, records, etc., to determine the action to be taken.

Writing or drafting correspondence, reports, documents, and/or other written materials.

Retrieving data found in databases to generate requested reports.

Maintaining and/or creating files or record-keeping systems. Sorts, labels, files and retrieves documents, or other materials.

Recommending additional disciplinary action for non-compliant licensees.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Exceptional record keeping and organizational skills.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Prior experience presenting to government entities or other management-level audiences.

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):

Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.

Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System. 

Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))

Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.

Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.

Paid Time Off:

Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).

Annual leave amounts increase with years of service. 

We have 12 paid holidays.

Qualifications

Find, gather and collect information or data. Deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism. Speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally. Operate office equipment. Communicate fluently in English. Communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing. Use automated software applications. Knowledge of research methods, techniques, and/or sources of information. Knowledge of proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Job Classification: Office Specialist II (11022).

Please note, a position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.

As a condition of employment with the Department of Commerce, employees shall receive compensatory time off in lieu of payment in cash for all overtime worked under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

DHRM rules apply for promotions/transfers.

Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, , safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
