Position Summary:  

The Capital Planning Specialist will play a key role on the team responsible for the delivery of the capital investment commitment within the Company’s business plan. The Specialist will serve on a centralized team for capital investment management working closely with Operations personnel that are responsible for capital deployment of both projects and programs. The position will assist in leveraging industry best practices and driving a culture of continuous improvement.

Location: Hybrid, Woods Run Complex in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Responsibilities:

Prepare annual budget and monthly forecasts, variance analyses, long-term planning, risk/opportunity assessments, and periodic/ad hoc reporting. Analyze investment opportunities, conduct financial modeling, and prepare reports to assist in decision-making on capital allocation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather data, assess risks, and identify potential investment strategies aligned with organizational goals. Conduct thorough market research to understand and implement industry best practices for capital deployment and management. Develop and present investment proposals, including outlining potential returns, risks, and strategic implications, to senior leadership and others as needed. Contribute to the tracking of key performance indicators that measure the Company’s ability to deploy capital in an efficient and effective manner. Support and actively champion the capital investment improvement roadmap throughout the organization. Continuously assess and provide suggestions for enhancement of investment processes and methodologies to improve decision-making efficiency and effectiveness. Build and maintain strong professional and working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or other related discipline required. Seven (7+) or more years of relevant experience required. Additional education or certifications preferred.

Strong analytical skills, strategic thought partnership, and ability to influence others. Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. Excellent communication skills and technical writing skills. Ability to pay attention to details and think critically. Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Intellectually curious and eager to learn. Professional, responsible, energetic, and accountable.

Scope:

Primary focus is on daily deliverables, outputs and reporting. Accountable for managing one's own time and workflow, and leads projects and/or large project steps. Work is complex in nature, requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Acts independently the majority of the time, requiring guidance in only complex situations. Has well established capabilities, acts as a resource to less experienced staff on moderately complex issues.

Decision Impact:

Problems and issues faced are vague and require analysis of multiple sources of information for solution. Draws on significant past experience to perform role. Accountable for direct level of reasoning and decision making.

Hybrid Work:

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.

Storm Roles:

All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Please be sure to discuss storm roles with the hiring manager for this position, as duties can vary across the Company.

Data Governance:

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
