Summary/Objective of Position:
The School Dean reports to the Provost and is responsible for administering the Business and Social Sciences programs; leading faculty members in planning, developing, and implementing instruction, research, services and outreach activities. The School Dean also collaborate with peers in other schools, department heads, and leaders of the college community. The School Dean also observes and evaluates faculty members, while fostering an environment for both student and faculty growth; enhancing relationships with internal and external constituencies; supporting the efforts of the Diné College Alumni; fostering participatory management and continuous improvement of programs; implementing academic policies; administering the School's budget; supporting departmental initiatives for program growth and improvement; serving as a member of the Provost's Council of Deans; and fostering a climate characterized by the mission, vision, principles, and values of Diné College.
Description of Essential Functions of the Position

• Administrative Duties: Provide leadership and working in a systemic environment; serve as a liaison between Provost and faculty; communicate the goals of the College to faculty, staff and students; (a) Supervise both full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff in accordance with institutional policies & procedures along with other applicable state, and federal laws and regulations; (b) Hiring highly qualified and effective faculty and staff, and ensuring their accountability for high-level performance in areas appropriate to their positions including being responsible for faculty on-boarding and new hire orientation; (c) Resolves student complaints in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and Academic Standards; (d) Ensuring the coordination of all components and activities within the School of Business and Social Sciences; (f) Submits reports monthly, quarterly, and/or annually as required by internal and external entities; (g) Assures availability of properly credentialed faculty to meet curriculum delivery requirements,including development of the annual faculty staffing plan;. (25%)
• Student Learning and Success: (a) Ensure the education provided meets or exceeds standards set forth by the institution's accrediting agency, Higher Learning Commission, and other accrediting agencies related to specialized programs; (b) Ensure quality post-secondary student learning appropriate to higher education standards; (c) Facilitates excellence in teaching, scholarly pursuits, and services to the college
and the community with special emphasis on student success; (d) Maintains transferability of course credits and/or academic programs, internally and externally; (e) Ensure student matriculate through academic programs within the School of Business and Social Sciences concurrently with the General Education core requirements; and plan for academic growth in accordance to the Academic Master Planning. (25%)
• Strategic Planning: (a) Responsible and accountable for all monetary resources for the School of Business and Social Sciences and seeks additional resources through fundraising, grants, alumni relations and endowments to ensure program viability; and (b) Conduct "Program Reviews" on scheduled basis to make strategic data-informed decisions aligned with institutional and annual fiscal planning. (25%)
• Research: (a) Conduct field appropriate research projects for the School of Business and Social Sciences in preparation for publication, IRB, tribal, state, and federal requirements; and (b) Secure and coordinate relationships with other institutions through partnerships to increase quality research and program development; and (c) Promote faculty participation in grants and (d) provide support for Principal Investigators(20%)
• Other related duties as assigned. (5%)
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Minimum:
A Master's Degree in Business and Social Sciences from an accredited institution with five (5) years demonstrated and successful Dean level experience or extensive experience in leadership and administration at the level of Faculty Chair, Associate Dean, or Dean in discipline in Business and Social Sciences or related field, or Ten (10) years' experience as department chair for an Business and Social Sciences area discipline. Five (5) years' experience supervising a four year undergraduate degree program. (5) Five years experience supervising general education programs such as the writing program. Experience with developing and reviewing academic programs; maintaining academic quality; and investigating new programs that build on existing strengths; experience with curriculum development, Knowledge and experience in budget preparation and fiscal management highly recommended.
Preferred:
PhD or terminal Degree preferred. Also Professor level preferred.
Knowledge:
A record of successful administrative experience that fosters a collaborative, inclusive work environment that values diversity and integrity. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
An understanding of national trend in undergraduate and graduate education.
Knowledge in teaching, research, and service sufficient to warrant appointment as a full professor.
Knowledge in four-year undergraduate and graduate degree programs, strategic direction, management, and oversight of the school and have an appreciation for the challenges and vision of the tribal college system (TCUs).
Skills:
Must have great communication(written and oral), social, and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies for the purpose of building professional relationships.
Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
Abilities:
Ability make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
Ability to develop, plan, and implement short-term and long-term goals.
Ability to read, understand, interpret and implement accreditation criteria and state agency regulations.
Ability to effectively present information to faculty, academic and campus leaders, and local communities. Skilled in the use of computers and related software (Jenzabar EX, MS Office).
Demonstrated record of strong support, understanding pedagogies, and fostering of teaching and learning in the Business and Social Sciences.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with academic degree program assessments in the Business and Social Sciences.
Demonstrated and experienced with Online and distance education program.
Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment: to include but not limited to the use of a personal computer, viewing a monitor, enter and retrieve data: use of a printer; malfunction copier (copy, email, fax, scanning); filing documents and information; ability to attend and participate in meetings and training's; ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to internal and external customers via multimedia (email, fax, phone, letter, etc.); moderate physical activity; and very limited exposure to physical risk but may require some extended periods of sitting, standing or walking. Ability to maintain confidentially. Work environment is fast pace with timelines. Some in state and out of state travel is may be required.
Other Requirement(s):
Must have and maintain a valid state issued driver's license and successfully pass a background check. Other licensing may be required depending on position and/or area of assignment.
