PRIMARY PURPOSE: To provide strategic leadership in administering the programs of curriculum, instruction, empowered learning, school leadership and supporting functions through goal setting, planning, organizing, coordinating, decisionmaking, communicating, and evaluating with a focus on continuous improvement. Support and develop principal leadership for exceptional learning experiences through coaching and supervision. Provide operational leadership support in the areas of safety, security, and crisis management
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES • Lead Learning & Innovation staff to include Curriculum & Instruction, Advanced Academics & Pathways, Special Programs & Services, Empowered Learning, School Leadership, and Student Support. • Develop and coordinate a systematic empowered learning plan to ensure all educators receive professional learning/training on effective instructional practice relative to empowered student learning and Professional Learning Communities. • Collaborate with the Deputy Superintendent of Administrative Services & Strategic Partnerships to support continuous improvement efforts in teaching, learning, campus leadership, and operations in partnership with other Cabinet members in order to ensure a focus on student learning. • Advocate, facilitate, and monitor the alignment of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and improvement in achieving district goals. • Maintain an information system that supports the facilitation and monitoring of district goals, measures, and initiatives. • Assist school staff in analyzing data for continuous improvement of student achievement. • Establish and oversee annual budgets from federal, state, and district funding allocations. • Advocate, facilitate, and monitor instructional accountability for the highest student achievement. • Advocate, facilitate, and monitor the development, deployment, and results of curriculum-related school improvement initiatives. • Solicit and listen to input from staff, schools, parents, and the community. • Assist the superintendent in overseeing the district’s efforts to improve performance in areas assessed by the state’s accountability system. • Employ collaborative decision-making processes and foster team-building to achieve high performance. Obtain and use evaluative findings, including student achievement data, to examine program effectiveness. • Report to the superintendent on the status of performance and outcomes related to the assistant superintendent’s responsibilities. • Attend board meetings and prepare reports as directed by the superintendent. • Provide leadership to ensure understanding and promotion of the District’s Guiding Documents. • Lead and support the Area Superintendent team to coach principals in improving student learning experiences through instructional practice and empowered learning. • Provide leadership and support to the superintendent, chiefs, and cabinet on matters related to student learning experiences. • Provide coaching, professional learning, and support for Area Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents in various leadership areas. • Ensure principals lead change effectively and supportively through empowered learning, coaching, and support. • Use qualitative and quantitative data, stakeholder feedback, and observations to develop principals' capacity to meet each student's learning needs. • Apply an equity lens and demonstrate cultural competency in all facets of the role. • Assess, gather, and use evidence to support principal development. • Ensure partnership between Area Superintendents and the Senior Executive Director of Student Support for effective campus safety and efficient operations. • Facilitate support for principals with other departments to effectively lead schools. • Develop and facilitate empowered learning experiences aligned with district goals for staff throughout the organization in collaboration with other departments when applicable. (Including, but not limited to, Safety & Operational summit, SALT professional learning and Operational Leadership Meetings.) • Ensure principals understand the district’s expectations for instructional leadership. • Demonstrate leadership in assessing needs, planning, administering and evaluating a multifaceted program of professional growth for both the administrative and instructional staff in the district. • Supervise the process pursuant to the selection of textbooks and instructional materials for the district in cooperation with teachers building principals, and subject area supervisors. • Demonstrate leadership in implementing a comprehensive ongoing program for communicating with a variety of audiences about district programs, student achievements and faculty accomplishments. • Develop a strong pipeline of future school leaders through continuous professional development and learning opportunities. • Manage department resource allocation to effectively support campus and district goals. • Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance. • Perform other duties as assigned.
