The Intern is utilized in ARUP's IT General department. ARUP's culture is one of caring for both the patient and its employees.

About the Supervisor :

Jenna Rychert is a Medical Director and the Director of Laboratory and Clinical IT. She oversees a team of 80+ clinical systems architects and analysts, programmers, data analysts, application administrators, and product managers. She also acts as the medical director of operational informatics, immunology, and customer support.

Internship Description :

We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented intern to join our team and assist in using and the to understand whether COVID vaccination is less effective in patients with inflammatory bowel disease who take immunomodulating agents. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge data analysis tools and contribute to an impactful clinical research project.

Internship Goals

Query a data lake within DataBricks to derive a research data set based on pre-determined inclusion criteria (requires strong knowledge of SQL) Analyze the research data set according to a pre-determined data analysis plan (requires experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as python, R, or similar)

Knowledge, Skills & Techniques Learned from Internship:

This internship is an opportunity for a driven individual to apply skills in querying, analyzing, and visualizing data to a clinical research question using real-world data collected from patient medical records and stored in a tightly controlled data lake.

Measurement of New Skills:

The expectation is that the intern will produce the data analysis and visualization necessary to submit an academic manuscript upon completion of the project.

Physical and Other Requirements :

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

Communicate: Frequently and effectively communicate with others.

PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.

ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
