General Summary:
Under general supervision of the athletic director instructs students in a sport to obtain a high skill level, an appreciation of discipline and sportsmanship, and increased self-esteem. 

Essential Functions: Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One. Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with students, parents, colleagues and other stakeholders. Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive learning and working environment. Explains and demonstrates use of apparatus and equipment. Explains and demonstrates principles, techniques, and methods of regulating movement of the body, hands, or feet to achieve proficiency in activity. Plans and schedules a regular program of practice; observes students during practice to detect and correct mistakes. Explains and enforces safety rules and regulations. Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted. Explains methods of keeping score. Organizes and conducts competitions and tournaments. Works closely with the athletic director in scheduling intramural and interscholastic contests and in assuring adequate publicity for the assigned sport. Establishes and enforces performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in each assigned sport. Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times; establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students. Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate to the athletic director. Assumes responsibility as assigned for maintaining equipment, storage areas, and playing areas for assigned sport. Assumes responsibility for students at all times during the school day and supervises students on the grounds as assigned by the principal. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops. Meets with parents, administrators and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, activities, etc. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Education/Work Experience: Experience as a participant or coach of the assigned sport; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities Valid South Carolina driver’s license
Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate in an effective and professional manner with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public.

Working Conditions:
Conducts duties in both indoor and outdoor environments with potential exposure to heat, cold, and/or wetness. Requires ability to provide constant attention working with students. Physical demands are restricted to work requiring occasional lifting/moving of items weighing up to seventy-five pounds. Occasional local and overnight travel is required. Operation of athletic equipment is required.

Responsibility:
Responsible for athletic equipment and facilities. Supervises students participating in sport being coached.

Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated by the athletic director and/or the principal.
