The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a highly creative, driven designer with an uncommon blend of design acumen and the ability to visually communicate complex technical concepts and processes. You will work as part of a communications team that delivers to both internal and external audiences as our Graphic Design and Visual Communication Specialist.

You will work on style guide and templates, logos, infographics, illustrations, charts and graphs that are visually appealing and easy to understand, and identification and organization of photos and other visual resources. This artwork will be used in several different contexts, including social medica, advertisements, websites, presentations, wayfinding and signage, and project collateral such as brochures, door hangers, and flyers.

Principle Duties
As the Graphic Design and Visual Communication Specialist, you will: Interpret and distill highly technical information in visual ways intended for mainstream audiences. Think creatively and strategically. Contribute to creative brainstorming sessions acting as the catalyst that mixes ideas, pushes concepts, and finds the best way to communicate visually. Oversee planning, management and delivery of projects from concept through completion. Manage workflow and processes to create efficiencies and increase productivity. Provide peer feedback and reviews, and collaborate with and sometimes supervise consultant designers. The Ideal Candidate
The best person for this position will have: An Associate’s degree, or higher, in Graphic Design, Web Design, Fine Arts or related field of study or equivalent experience. Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Google Workspace programs (Slides, Docs, Forms, Sheets, etc.).  Preferences
Preference may be given to those with at least one of the following: Proficiency in other communications competencies, especially writing, copyediting, and/or social media. Experience working with experts in a technical field (e.g., engineering, manufacturing, software development, etc.). Ability to create 3D visuals and/or renderings. Familiarity with virtual reality technology.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Here are some of the knowledge, skills and abilities that are typically associated with the job, though not all-inclusive: Knowledge of Premiere, After Effects and Audition Ability and experience working on strategic campaigns; basic use of XML and JavaScript Strong portfolio showing ability to design in a wide variety of styles; eye for design details, such as typography, alignment, hierarchy, etc Knowledge of offset printing/digital printing/color correction; ability to coordinate complex projects An understanding of branding/brand development and implementation, communications and research Ability to be a creative self-starter who excels in a fast-paced, team environment Strong customer service skills Strong time management skills Ability to work independently Ability to use graphics to help tell stories Project management skills Negotiation skills Team orientation rather than individual contributor attitude Demonstrated interest in ongoing training/education to stay relevant with rapidly changing technology
