Staff Accountant

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Purchasing Manager, the Staff Accountant will be a crucial part of the agency’s finance department. This position will require a strong attention to detail and a willingness to work both independently and collaboratively. The Staff Accountant will play an important role in the monthly accounting close process by ensuring accuracy within the general ledger and adhering to necessary deadlines.
The ideal candidate will enjoy working with people of all backgrounds and will find fulfillment in tasks and projects requiring attention to detail. They will understand that working at a close-knit, non-profit agency requires a willingness to pitch-in with a can-do spirit when needed. Essential Functions:
Assists in maintaining financial records and ensuring that financial transactions are properly recorded utilizing the agency’s accounting software. Reconcile American Express account, collect backup paperwork from cardholders, and prepare check requests for Accounts Payable. Reconcile Amazon, Exxon, WB Mason, and other agency credit card accounts and prepare check requests for AP. Verify service invoices with programs and prepare check requests for Accounts Payable. Submit orders for office supplies, coffee supplies, disposables, and program supplies for the Purchasing Manager to review and approve. Assist with the negotiation of pricing and contract terms. Track orders and ensure timely delivery. Review the quality of purchased products and address product defects when applicable. Maintain updated records of purchased products, delivery, and invoices. Enter AP relating to Amazon, Exxon, American Express, other Agency credit cards, and service invoices into the Agency’s accounting software. Assist program managers, supervisors, and others with purchasing issues and questions. Assist in creating and posting journal entries. Assist with the annual financial statement audit. Assist with tracking revenues and expenditures for assigned federal, state, and local grants and contracts. Reconcile grant and contract financial reports to the financial records. Assist with preparing monthly, quarterly, and or annual invoices for assigned federal, state, and local grants and contracts. Assist with preparing a variety of reports, statements, records, analyses, and financial compilations for Federal, state, and local regulatory agencies as required. Tracking all grant reporting deadlines for government and grant contributions Interact effectively and respectfully with others, particularly with individuals whose backgrounds and life experiences are different from one’s own. Contribute to the overall success and quality of the agency by working constructively and collaboratively with other staff members to address programmatic and agency-wide issues and needs. Constructively utilize formal and peer supervision to evaluate and improve effectiveness in providing services. This includes active participation in supervision, team meetings, and agency meetings. Pursue ongoing professional development through professional reading and attending relevant workshops and conferences (including Children’s Friend’s core training program if appropriate). Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Strong Excel experience required. 1-3 years of experience preferred. Strong relationship, organizational, and detail-oriented skills are required.-
