Sandy Springs United Methodist Church is seeking a Director of Community Connection to help fulfill our vision: We are a wellspring of love and hospitality. We seek to build life-changing relationships, nurture spiritual growth, and foster service through impactful partnerships. 

We are a historic church located in a thriving downtown Sandy Springs community and we’re looking to reinvent ourselves for the next generation. Thanks to the smart investments of past congregations, we have a unique opportunity to redevelop our property and build a brand new church on our idyllic urban campus. But we know church is so much more than a building and we need someone with a passion for community and a love for people who can help us build a vision for the future and bring new missions to life. 

The Director will be the identifier, recruiter, and equipper of teams that coordinate events that build community and connection; develop and implement systems that connect newcomers into the life of the church; oversee radical hospitality at all services and events; and engage the wider community through service opportunities and outreach events. The Director will have primary oversight for the following ministry areas while recruiting, equipping, and empowering volunteers to serve. We are open to qualified candidates from all different backgrounds – clergy, lay persons, non-profit leaders and more. 

Hospitality: Identifies, recruits, and equips teams that plan and execute events with excellence. Additionally, oversees a team that ensures radical hospitality at worship services and other church ministry events. Fulfills vision of being a wellspring of love and hospitality. 

Serve: Staff Liaison to community partners and “Serve Team” which oversees current and new service opportunities with an emphasis on partnering with local non-profits and other organizations to support their work. This team plans hands-on service opportunities for church members to be in service together, as well as financial and other ways to donate needed items to the community. Works with other teams to connect service opportunities to social events, worship, and other areas of ministry. Fulfills the vision of fostering service through impactful partnerships.

Connect: Staff Liaison to “Connect Team” that connects new people into the church community so that we can fulfill our vision and make disciples. Director, with the team, will create and implement a follow-up system for newcomers to help them become engaged from first visit to moving along our discipleship system; and create an intentional connection system for church events and ministries so that people who attend are invited into the life of our church. 

Share: Staff Liaison to new “Share Team” that fulfills the vision of being a wellspring of love and hospitality in our wider community as well as building life-changing relationships. Focus on educating, training, and empowering our members to share their faith with others in order to foster an invitational culture. Plans events that welcome newcomers and events that intentionally connect with the community, such as participating in city arts festivals, Sparkle Sandy Springs parade, and other city/community programs. 

Communication: Creates and directs overall communication strategy of the church. Oversees part-time Communications Coordinator, who implements communication strategy. 

Qualifications and Skills: 

*A passionate disciple of Jesus Christ who is committed to the mission and vision of the church

*Passion for and Demonstrated experience sharing Christ with others and inviting them into the life of a church

*Organized, efficient self-starter who takes initiative 

*Team player and works collaboratively with staff and volunteers

*Skilled and experienced creator and implementer of systems

*Experience recruiting, equipping, and leading teams of volunteers

*Plans and executes events with excellence

Hours and Pay

Full Time, Exempt; Weekend and Evening Hours Expected, including Sundays

Package includes competitive salary, health insurance, vacation days, and retirement benefits
