About the role

Your Impact as Material Lab Analyst

I. PURPOSE OF THE JOB

BITC is a technical center aimed at providing value to customers through services such as new product and process development, lab testing and value-added services such as tire forensics, new test method development and advanced problem-solving. Your role is to strengthen these value-added services for internal as well as external customers and to support internal projects by performing the following tasks:

In-depth metallurgical analysis Providing insights and solutions to help with the technical problem. Develop expertise in advanced characterization techniques. Effortlessly handle equipment such as the stereoscope, optical microscope & scanning electron microscope. Support & contribute towards key R&D projects, complex customer complaints and process issues. Lead his/her own project from time to time.

The nature of the investigations will be related mostly to Bekaert products such as steel cords, hose reinforcement wire, wire rods, springs, and sometimes machine components.

II. ROLE DESCRIPTION

Investigation requirements

• You will perform all the metallurgical investigations related to complaints from customers, urgent/on-going operational issues, R&D programs, evaluating raw material suppliers and reporting them in a professional and timely basis to the stakeholders.

• You will play a crucial role in process & product development related to material behaviour in Bekaert processes through performing in-depth analysis and contribution of your ideas.

• You will be entrusted in design and execution of laboratory testing according to standard procedures, making observations and interpretating findings to solve process issues.

• You will utilize state of art equipment such as optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscopes (SEM), stereoscope and other instruments such as micro-hardness tester for performing the analysis.

• You will execute calibration & maintenance activity of Optical Microscopes, Scanning Electron Microscopes and Micro-hardness Tester.

• You will be empowered to conduct advance testing of material by co-ordinating with external Bekaert or third-party labs to provide comprehensive analysis of the problem.

• You will contribute to local and global cross functional teams based on your expertise in metallurgy and advance characterization techniques.

Operational requirements

• You will be instrumental in planning tests and ensuring commitments of completion dates are adhered to as per global and local standards.

• You will be accountable in complying with the materials lab ISO-TS quality systems and SHE (safety, health, and environment).

• You will coordinate with external agencies for annual maintenance contract execution.

• You will handle the necessary software tools for planning and reporting of the analysis and compiling the reports to customers.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

Formal Education – Graduate in Metallurgical Engineering

Work experience – 1-2 years (in Metallurgical testing).

Knowledge & skills:

Must Have

• Batchlor’s degree in Metallurgy.

• Sound knowledge of Metallurgy fundamentals.

• Knowledge of material characterization techniques.

• Excellent logical and analytical skills

• Well versed in the English and Hindi language: written and spoken.

• Good communication skills

• Good team spirit, a strong sense of responsibility and be able to work independently.

Prefer to have.

• Expertise in using scanning electron microscopy, optical and stereo microscopy.

• Knowledge about wire metallurgy.

• Basic knowledge of Quality Management System , ISO/TS .

• Experience in steel Industry. (1-2 years).
