Description


The City of St Marys, located at the southeastern most tip of Georgia, is undergoing an unprecedented development boom. Over the next 10 years the City will change dramatically with close to 3 million sq feet of industrial development and 5,000+ units of housing.

The Community Development Department is looking for a Senior Planner to help the City build a resilient future. This position will exercise an incredibly diverse set of planning skills from Resilience/Coastal Planning and Master Planning, to staffing the Planning Commission. Assists in planning studies and developing reports in support of new and updated plans, programs and regulations. Conducts review of various development applications including rezoning requests, ordinance amendments, site plans, special use permits, variances, subdivision plats and other proposals. Provides information to the public related to zoning and land use questions. Writes, or assists in writing, a variety of ordinances and regulations relating to development controls. Manages and executes the City’s Floodplain Management initiatives. Prepares for and provides support for Planning Commission hearings; prepares related correspondence, agendas, legal notices, and maps. Prepares for and provides support for the Planning and Historic Preservation Commissions; prepares staff reports, presentations, maps, correspondence, and agendas. Prepares minutes for the Planning Commission and the Historic Preservation Commission. Provides GIS products and services for various city departments. Maintains and updates GIS files. Maintains and updates webmap. Answers telephone and provides information and assistance to callers. Performs related duties.

Job Requirements

Knowledge of municipal planning principles and practices. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Knowledge of city codes and ordinances. Knowledge of city permitting policies and procedures. Knowledge of geographic information system (GIS) technology, software, principles, and practices. Skill in the provision of customer services. Skill in the operation of basic office equipment Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in maintaining and updating GIS data systems. Skill in the preparation and maintenance of maps.

Salary & Benefits
 This is a full time position at 40hrs/week and $22/hr.
