The Peer Support Specialist is responsible for providing leadership to the peer support program and the coordination and delivery of health promotion initiatives in alignment with LCMC Health's strategy. Provides individual and group support to physicians, nurses and ancillary staff experiencing distress at work following adverse patient/workplace events and other stress related to the workplace or patient care. Implements assessment plans to determine support needs specific to LCMC Health system and develops cross system initiatives designed to reduce stigma of seeking help while promoting behaviors conducive to creating a culture of wellness and support within LCMC.
This role would service employees, providers, contractors anytime during work hours. These hours can vary.
Your Everyday
Program Management:- Oversees volunteer peer allies, including attending physicians, resident physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff. Recruits additional peer allies to match program expansion.
- Selects, orients, trains new peer allies and documents the onboarding process.
- Triages cases and coordinates matching of peer allies with affected clinicians and employees after referrals, ensuring adequate support. Provides guidance and supervision to peer allies navigating difficult cases.
- Provides group psychological first aid and rapid-response support following traumatic events that impact entire units or care teams (i.e., Critical Incident Stress Management, CISM).
- Oversees business processes including developing marketing materials, maintaining web-based education, performing budget management and invoicing, and coordinates event planning. Education:
- Serves as content expert, providing education to managers and senior leaders about appropriate and evidence-based responses to clinicians and employees with secondary trauma specifically, and in regard to workplace trauma more generally.
- Raises awareness of the second victim phenomenon, secondary traumatic stress, and the availability of the peer support program by creating and presenting education to front line leadership and staff.
- Chairs peer ally meetings, developing new educational content for sessions to increase the competence and confidence of peer allies. helping skills, and appropriate referral/escalation of cases. Coordination:
- Manages cases escalated by peer allies for referral, providing individualized warm handoffs to mental health providers in the community. Serves as a resource liaison by facilitating access to existing behavioral health and wellness resources, developing and maintaining referral relationships with community-based behavioral health providers.
- Provides consultative support to clinicians and employees seeking referral to appropriate behavioral health providers.
- Coordinates with other departments/teams as needed, identifying novel opportunities to identify clinicians and employees in need of individual or group peer support. Collaboration:
- Consults with partnering organizations who are establishing or revitalizing peer support programs.
- Serves as a core member of the well-being team (Be Well Center), developing and presenting wellbeing education broadly across the institution.
- Represents LCMC Health locally, regionally, and nationally at conferences. Works collaboratively with other institutions to share best practices and program strategies. Program Development and advancement
- Leads strategic planning efforts for the program, working with organizational leaders to align resources, span organizational boundaries, and promote collaboration amongst key stakeholders. Communication and marketing:
- Communicates marketing/outreach strategies on behalf of the peer support program and the wellness center in consultation with other colleagues.
- Develops and maintains a social media presence and maintains the peer support program content on the relevant website.

Minimum:
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
3 years Experience in the health and wellness industry to include experience in the delivery and coordination of corporate based health promotion programs and project/vendor management or other relevant experience. Experience in psychology, social work, counseling, behavioral health, or related health field preferred. Experience working in an acute hospital setting preferred Preferred: LCSW or LPC Experience in Trauma Informed Care
