POSITION:  Eastern Service Area Work Based Learning Paraprofessional Job Coach

PRIMARY GOAL: Prepare high school age students for work based learning opportunities, coordinates and oversees onsite employment skills experiences for student participants.

LOCATION: Eastern Service Area

START DATE: August

CERTIFICATION/QUALIFICATIONS: 

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. The equivalent of 2 years of college (60 semester credits) or an Associates degree or higher OR the

successful completion of the MDE approved Paraprofessional standards test (ETS).

Experience working with children. Demonstrated abilities in the area of interpersonal communication. A high degree of patience, ability and willingness to learn new skills and take direction. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work easily and effectively with adolescents individually and in small groups. Willingness to work with a team to maintain best practice within the supplemental educational system.

JOB SUMMARY: Under direction of the Transition Coordinator and/ or the Director of Specialized Instruction and Intervention, the Paraprofessional Job Coach provides both instructional and non-instructional support to students within the school and community work setting. The Paraprofessional Job Coach is required to visit and provide support in the form of job training to students on work sites throughout the community. The Paraprofessional Job Coach is required to record bi-weekly observations in an electronic format on every student assigned to them.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Work with eligible students in small groups or individually under the supervision of the Transition Coordinator and/or Director of Specialized Instruction and Intervention. Locates and evaluates prospective job shadow, internship, and training sites for students

within the five Eastern Service Area School Districts

Cultivates business and industry partnerships by building sustainable relationships with

local employers

Coordinates WBL application process with local districts Conducts WBL student interviews before placing students at Job Sites Coordinate school and work schedules with employed and non-employed (internships)

student-learners

Develops, coordinates and oversees onsite employment skills experiences Collaborates with teachers on IEP goal development for work skills Evaluates student-learners at their WBL sites and communicates that information to student case managers Assists students to understand and overcome social and emotional problems on the work site and in the community Provides training to local paraprofessionals who attend work sites with student participants Provide support and assist students in learning new tasks on the job site, model expected behavior, and support students practicing tasks.

Follow a daily schedule as assigned by the supervisor and respond flexibly to changes in schedule or routine based on the needs of the students. Support program goals by assisting in the implementation of lessons related to skills within the work environment.

Assist with the students goals of developing employment tasks, such as resume writing, application completion, and interview practice. Complete paperwork deemed necessary to support the goals of the program as assigned by the Transition Coordinator and/or Supervisor of Educational Supports and Intervention. Provide record keeping and data collection relative to progress of eligible students. Maintain confidentiality. Use technology needed to support the program. Must have transportation and be comfortable visiting various job sites in the community. Performs other duties as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance. Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools Employee Handbook.

SALARY: Hourly pay based on experience
