The Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation is seeking a Research Engineer to contribute to the success of the department by helping conduct research centered on advancing the level of surgical skills training at Iowa to keep Iowa at the forefront of resident education.
Surgical Skills Research and Clinical Research Responsibilities:
Serve as a conduit between the laboratory and clinical settings to advance efforts at evaluating surgical performance in the skills laboratory as well as in the operating room. Ensure that operating room metrics are being properly documented in alignment with simulation-based trainings and research initiatives. Coordinate simulation-based assessments for residents as they come off different services (trauma, sports medicine, peds, etc). Act as technical resource to ensure all simulation technology runs smoothly for any training or assessment activities. Perform research activities based upon protocols developed by the principal investigator of the research project or other department research staff, working closely with orthopedic residents on their projects. Record and consolidate data as directed by Principal Investigator (PI). Track progress/success of research project. Collect, track, and perform data entry for reports. Prepare materials for reports. Write abstracts and manuscripts based on findings from surgical skills research. Help prepare presentations for national conferences Assist in preparing materials for new research grant proposals.In order to be considered for an interview, applicants must upload the following documents and mark them as a “Relevant File” to the submission:
