All internship positions are designed to give college students an opportunity to apply techniques learned in an academic setting while obtaining new skills. This is a paid internship offering full-time hours during the summer months.All interns are required to conclude the program by giving a formal presentation on their work. Please note that no relocation assistance is provided for the internship program. 

Position Summary: 

Asuragen, a Bio-Techne brand (NASDAQ: TECH), is a molecular diagnostic product company based in Austin, TX, changing the way patients are treated in genetics and oncology. Asuragen’s diagnostic systems, composed of proprietary chemistry and software, deliver powerful answers using broadly installed instrument platforms. Asuragen’s sister company, Exosome Diagnostics, is a global molecular diagnostics product and solutions company that specializes in harnessing the power of exosomes to revolutionize disease management and patient care through non-invasive liquid biopsies. Our industry-leading exosome enrichment and analysis technology platform offers a non-invasive, multiomic window into human disease, enabling breakthrough diagnostic solutions. Our product portfolio includes the first and only exosome-based diagnostic for prostate cancer, the Prostate IntelliScore (EPI) test. 

As an AI Research Engineer, you will collaborate with computational and wet-lab scientists across Asuragen and Exosome Diagnostics to advance our discovery platform by developing new AI-based capabilities to organize, learn, and present multiomics data to an end user. Building upon strong foundations in large-scale NGS data pipelines applied to discover novel disease signatures, you will work collaboratively and cross-functionally with R&D scientists to advance our AI-based multiomics capabilities using the latest developments in AI research. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Support biomarker discovery and signature development projects, applying best practices in data science and machine learning to develop multiomics data integration and retrieval methodologies 

Utilize AI/deep learning methodologies to design and implement a natural language interface for querying multiomics data 

Develop algorithmic methodologies to accurately extract relevant information from NGS datasets containing diverse sample types 

Work with the computational biology team to integrate the developed natural language interface with our multiomics database 

Document the development process, algorithms, and codebase for future reference 

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including biologists, data scientists, and software engineers 

Communicate project updates, challenges, and results effectively to team members and stakeholders 

Apply rigorous standards and processes for code quality, configuration and change management, data provenance, and organization of supporting computational infrastructure to ensure accurate and reproducible analysis results 

Qualifications

Program Requirements: 

Must be currently pursuing a degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, AI/ML, Computer Science or a related field 

Must be able to work full-time during the duration of the internship program 

Experience Qualifications:  

Familiarity with deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and natural language processing techniques 

Strong programming skills in languages such as Python or R 

Understanding of biotechnology, genomics, and multiomics data 

Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g. AWS) a plus
